2012 South Bracket Predictions
Things are starting to look a little bit more normal here in the South, where three of the top four seeds are still remaining. It would have been nice for Kentucky to get a big of an easier road to get into the Final Four, but we still don’t see how it is going to get tripped up by any of these teams. The Selection Committee did a huge favor for the Cats by pairing them up with Indiana for the Sweet 16, and we have all been looking forward to see what UK can get done when push comes to shove in the rematch from the loss in Bloomington.
On the other side of the bracket, we don’t really love either Baylor or Xavier. The Musketeers are clearly just a team that has ridden the luck of the draw of a good schedule to reach this point. They are going to get perhaps another gift taking on the Bears, who are very talented in their own right, but they sometimes let games slip away.
In the end, we are convinced that this is still the bracket that belongs to the Wildcats, and the point is there that we have to ask whether they are worthy of being the odds on favorites to win the whole enchilada.

2012 West Bracket Predictions
Out West, we are looking at a couple of very interesting matchups. The Big East is all over the place here in Phoenix, with both Louisville and Marquette still alive and potentially meeting in the regional final for the right to go to the Final Four this weekend.
We just don’t know if it is going to happen, though. We really thought if the Spartans were going to get picked off, it was going to be in the first weekend of this tourney. These Cardinals are great, but we don’t think that there is enough offensively for them to get the job done. MSU is an outstanding side, and after fending off Saint Louis over the weekend, we think that it could be on its way to the Elite 8.
Still, we think that this bracket belongs to the Gators. Florida has been doing everything right that it has needed to do, and though Head Coach Billy Donovan will be the first to tell you that his team has gotten quite lucky over the course of the first weekend of the dance, he also will tell you that his squad has been playing well. This was one of our dark horse picks to get to the Final Four at the start of the tournament, and we aren’t changing those thoughts now.

2012 East Bracket Predictions
The East Region is the one region where our thoughts about the Final Four have gone down the drain. Florida State really disappointed us against Cincinnati on Friday, and we think that Ohio State is the team that is going to take the big time advantage of that. The Buckeyes continued their mean ball by beating up on Gonzaga on Saturday, and they really shouldn’t struggle with the Bearcats either.
The bracket really opens up for OSU at that point, as we don’t think that there is a struggle ahead in the Elite 8 one way or the other. Sure, Wisconsin found a way to play tough against the Buckeyes this year in the Big Ten, but the guards just aren’t ultimately there for the Badgers to get the job done against both of the top seeds in this region. If there was a thought that Syracuse was going to be an easy out, that thought went out the window in a hurry when the team was able to trounce Kansas State in a bit of a statement game after the near debacle against UNC Asheville to start off the tourney.
2012 Midwest Bracket Predictions
The Midwest has pretty much been a bracket that has played out the way that we figured it would. North Carolina has some major problems right now, knowing the Kendall Marshall might not play again this year after breaking his wrist against Creighton, but it really shouldn’t matter in until the Elite 8. We knew that the bracket with Michigan and Temple in it could have gone to any of those four teams, and it just happens to be that the Bobcats are the bunch that survived. Too bad they really shouldn’t have a chance against UNC.
This is still a bracket that belongs to Kansas. For all of the ACC backers that are waiting for NC State to keep rolling to set up a Tar Heels/Wolfpack battle to go the Final Four, it isn’t happening. The Wolfpack have run into teams that have been severely overrated in this tournament for the whole first weekend, and now, they get a Kansas team that is certainly not overrated to say the least. The Jayhawks are the real deal, and they just survived what turned out to be a big challenge from a Purdue team that most certainly proved to be underseeded as a No. 10.
2012 Final Four Predictions
The positions for Kentucky and Kansas just keep getting better and better as we see it. We do think that Baylor, if it gets its act together, could prove to be problematic for the Wildcats, but in the end, the South should be won by the Big Blue nation. The Jayhawks are going to get NC State, a team that it should be able to handle, and that will be their third double digit seed that they get through in this tournament. The other side of that bracket with North Carolina (probably sans Kendall Marshall) and Ohio just doesn’t look all that formidable.
For the Jayhawks, matters also get better knowing that Florida State, arguably the toughest team in the East Region is out of the fold. Sure, Syracuse is playing better ball, but now, we are looking for Ohio State to get to New Orleans. We don’t think that it will matter though, as the Jayhawks are clearly the better of these teams.
Florida is still our choice to make it out of the West, though we are still aware of the fact that the Wildcats would surely get their fourth win of the year over the blue and orange if that were to be how this played out in New Orleans.
In the end, Kentucky is still the top team in this tournament, and for as long as it is in the field, it is going to be the team that we are backing to win it all.
