Bankroll Sports NCAA Basketball Top 25 Poll
These Rankings Were Released & Updated on March 9, 2009

**Records Below are as of Sunday, March 8, 2009

1. Memphis Tigers (28-3) – The Memphis Tigers have become the seventh team during this season to garner the #1 position. The Tigers move up from #2 last week with their two wins in the last week at Houston and with Tulane. The Tigers once again finished the season with an unbeaten Conference USA season. The Tigers have not lost since December 20th in a home game to Syracuse. Memphis is led in scoring by freshmen Tyreke Evans who is scoring 17 points per game. The Tigers will start the Conference USA Conference Tournament on Thursday, with all games being played at the FedExForum in Memphis. Despite being #1 in the country, the Tigers may be left out for a #1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament.

2. Pittsburgh Panthers (28-3) – The Pittsburgh Panthers handed the Connecticut Huskies their third loss of the season on Saturday, the second time Pittsburgh beat the Huskies during the 2008-2009 season. The win for Pittsburgh moves them from #3 to #2 overall. The Panthers tied the Huskies for second place in the Big East Conference, one full game behind Louisville. Sam Young leads the team in scoring with 18.8 points per game, while DeJuan Blair is leading in rebounds with 13 per game. The Panthers will begin the Big East tournament at the Madison Square Garden on Friday as the # 2 seed. The Panthers, despite a total collapse in the Big East Tournament should garner a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

3. North Carolina Tarheels (27-3) – The Tarheels wrapped up the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title with a 79-71 win over their rival the Duke Blue Devils. The TarHeels finished the regular season as winners of 13 of their last 14 games. North Carolina moves up one position from #4 to #3 with the win, and also a mid-week win at Virginia Tech. The Tarheels will open up Atlantic Coast Conference play on Friday in Atlanta against the winner of the 8/9 game on Thursday. North Carolina should be in pretty good shape for a #1 seed overall in the NCAA Tournament.

4. Connecticut Huskies (27-3) – The Huskies fall from #1 to #4 with their third loss of the season, their second to Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Huskies fell 70-60 despite A.J. Price scoring 19 points. The Huskies defense allowed Pittsburgh’s Sam Young to blast them for 31 points. The loss for Connecticut dropped them from the top of the Big East conference, to third place. Connecticut will start the Big East tournament on Friday, after two bye’s, as the #3 seed. Like Pittsburgh, if the Huskies can hold their ground in the conference tournament, they should be in good shape for a #1 seed overall in the NCAA Tournament.

5. Oklahoma Sooners (27-4) – The Sooners picked up their 27th win of the season on Saturday with a four-point victory over their rival Oklahoma State. That win was their 13th in Big Twelve play, which placed them third overall, just behind Kansas. In the win on Saturday Blake Griffin poured in 33 points and ripped down 14 rebounds. Blake’s brother Taylor Griffin added 15 points, and Willie Warren scored 11 points, dished out 5 assists to aid the Sooners. During the regular season, Blake Griffin scored 22.1 points per game. The win for Oklahoma moved them from #6, inside the top 5, at #5. The Big 12 tournament will start on Wednesday this week, with Oklahoma getting a first round bye. The Sooners will take on the winner of Oklahoma State/Iowa State at 6:00pm on Thursday evening. Oklahoma would like to claim the Big 12 title, to give them a better shot at an overall #1 seed. The Sooners, with an array of other squads are fighting hard for that seed.

6. Louisville Cardinals (25-5) – The Cardinals picked up a road win at West Virginia on Saturday night, which locked up the Big East title. The win, and the title moved the Cardinals up one spot from #7 to #6. The Cardinals ended the Big East slate winning their last seven game. The last time Louisville lost was February 12th at Notre Dame. Before that, the lone Big East loss for the Cardinals was February 2nd against Connecticut. Earl Clark, and his 13.6 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game led the Cardinals all season. The Cardinals will start the Big East tournament on Thursday at noon after two byes.

7. Duke Blue Devils (25-6) – The Blue Devils were not able to pull the road upset, and tie North Carolina atop the Atlantic Coast Conference. Instead the Blue Devils finished tied in second place with a 11-5 ACC record. The loss dropped Duke from #5 to #7 in the rankings. Gerald Henderson lead the team in scoring during the 2008-2009 season with just under 17 points per game. The Blue Devils will play in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament as the #3 seed, as Wake Forest wins the tiebreaker for the #2 seed. 8. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (24-5) – The Demon Deacons picked up a 96-88 Sunday night win over Clemson to move them to a second place tie with Duke atop the Atlantic Coast Conference. As high as #1 this season, the Deacons feel they could be a player in the national championship discussion starting in two weeks. Before that, the Deacons will look to win the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, as they get a bye, and then start their action as the #2 seed, on Friday night at 7pm. A first round win would place them in the semifinals against, most likely Duke. Wake Forest moves up one position from #9 to #8 with the win.

Kansas’ two conferences losses came on the road at Missouri and then in Lubbock. With the loss during mid-week the Jayhawks dropped one spot from #8 to #9. Coach Self and his crew will start the Big 12 tournament on Thursday at 11:30am against the winner of Nebraska and Baylor.
