1. Syracuse Orange (15-0) – Jim Boeheim’s team continues to roll with their 15-0 start to the 2011 – 2012 season. The Orange is coming off a 19 point win over the DePaul Blue Demons on New Year’s Day. The Orange is scoring 80.7 points per game as a team. The top scorer for the Orange has been Kris Joseph, with 14 per game. Syracuse will continue their Big East portion of the schedule with a trip to Providence on Wednesday, followed by a home game with Marquette on Saturday.

2. Kentucky Wildcats (13-1) – The Kentucky Wildcats are 13-1 entering the New Year. The Wildcats are coming off their big win over Louisville on New Year’s Eve. The Wildcats are led in scoring by Doron Lamb and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The two are combined nearly 30 points per game. Kentucky’s lone loss came at the buzzer, when the Indiana Hoosiers beat them in Bloomington. The Wildcats host Arkansas-Little Rock and South Carolina the remainder of this week.

3. North Carolina Tar Heels (13-2) – The North Carolina Tar Heels are looking for a huge 2012. After losing two games in 2011, North Carolina feel they are getting the legs to be the top team in the country. Roy Williams team lost to UNLV and Kentucky; both UNLV and Kentucky; both Top 25 teams. The Tar Heels are the top scoring team in the country with 88.1 points per game. The top scorer for the Tar Heels has been Harrison Barnes with 17 points per game. North Carolina takes on Boston College on Saturday, and then Miami on January 10th.

4. Baylor Bears (14-0) – The Baylor Bears continue to remain unbeaten on the season. The Bears kept their unbeaten record alive on Monday night when they won their first Big 12 game of the season. Baylor downed the Texas A+M Aggies 61-52. Perry Jones III is the leading scorer for the Bears, with over 13 points per game. Baylor will face a tough test this upcoming week; as they play at Texas Tech on Saturday, and then at Kansas State on January 10th. Following that, the Bears have Oklahoma State at home, and a trip to Kansas.

5. Duke Blue Devils (12-1) – The Duke Blue Devils are the second team out of the Atlantic Coast Conference to be ranked. The Blue Devils come into 2012 with a 12-1 record. On New Year’s Day, Duke blasted Penn by 30 points. The lone loss for the Blue Devils came on November 29th when the Ohio State Buckeyes beat them in Columbus. Duke is led in scoring by Austin Rivers, with 15.4 points per game. The Blue Devils play at Temple on Thursday, and then at Georgia Tech to start the conference season on Saturday.

6. Missouri Tigers (13-0) – The Missouri Tigers are one of the unbeaten teams left in college basketball. The Tigers have seen several tough tests; including a rivalry game against Illinois. Missouri also beat California, Notre Dame and Villanova in 2011. The Tigers are scoring 86.2 points per game, which is third in the country. Missouri’s leading scorer has been Marcus Denmon, with 18.7 per game. Missouri will start their Big 12 season on Tuesday, as they host the Oklahoma Sooners.

7. Connecticut Huskies (12-1) – Jim Calhoun has sat two of his three Big East games as part of his suspension. In those two games, the Huskies did not skip a beat; downing both South Florida and St. John’s. The Huskies lone loss on the season came to Central Florida on November 25th. Despite losing Kimba Walker, the Huskies are still scoring nearly 75 points per game. Connecticut is one of six teams left in the Big East without a conference loss. The Huskies will play at Seton Hall on Tuesday and then head to Rutgers on Saturday.

8. Georgetown Hoyas (12-1) – The Georgetown Hoyas have just one loss on the season. That loss came in Maui to the Kansas Jayhawks. Since that point, Georgetown has been impressive, with 10 straight wins. The Hoyas have beaten Alabama and Louisville during that time. Georgetown is led by Jason Clark, with 15.1 points per game. The Hoyas will play Marquette on January 4th in a huge Big East game. Following that, Georgetown will play at the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday.

9. Louisville Cardinals (12-2) – Rick Pitino and his Louisville Cardinals started the season 12-0. Since then, they have dropped two straight games. The Cardinals fell to Georgetown, and then in the rivalry game to the Kentucky Wildcats. Louisville is scoring 72 points per game, which ranks 113th in the country. The Cardinals are looking to pick up their first Big East win on Tuesday, as they play at St. John’s. Following that game, Louisville will host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on January 7th.

10. Michigan State Spartans (13-2) – Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans are one of the hottest teams in college basketball. The Spartans have won 13 straight games, after losing games to North Carolina and Duke. The Spartans picked up a 15 point win over Indiana, and backed it up with a win over Nebraska. The Spartans rank 11th in the country in rebounds with over 40 per game. Michigan State will look to keep their streak alive on Tuesday in Madison, against the Wisconsin Badgers. The Spartans and Iowa will get together on January 10th.

11. Indiana Hoosiers (13-1) – The Indiana Hoosiers are one of the biggest surprises in all of college basketball. Tom Crean and his Hoosiers just have one loss on the season; coming to the Michigan State Spartans. Indiana has two huge wins at home on the season. Indiana beat Kentucky at the buzzer, and most recently downed the Ohio State Buckeyes. Indiana is led by Cody Zeller, with his 14 points per game. The Hoosiers will look to continue their streak of playing well, as they host the Michigan Wolverines on Thursday. Indiana will also play at Penn State on Sunday.

12. Ohio State Buckeyes (13-2) – The third straight Big Ten team ranked in the Top 25 is the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes have two losses on the season; at Kansas and at Indiana. The Buckeyes are led by Jared Sullinger and William Buford. The two are scoring 32.3 points per game as a pair. Ohio State ranks as the 9th best team in the country in assists per game. The Buckeyes will host Nebraska on Tuesday, and then head to Iowa and Illinois in consecutive games.

13. Wisconsin Badgers (12-3) – The Wisconsin Badgers are the fourth straight Big Ten ranked in the Top 25. The Badgers are 12-3 and 1-1 in Big Ten games. Bo Ryan’s team ranks just 192nd in the country in points scored; as they are scoring less than 70 per game. The Badgers are led by Jordan Taylor, with just under 13 per game. Wisconsin’s three losses came to North Carolina, Marquette and most recently to the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Badgers host Michigan State on Tuesday, and play at Michigan on Sunday.

14. Mississippi State Bulldogs (13-2) – Out of the SEC – the Mississippi State Bulldogs 13-2 on the season. After losing to Akron early in the season, the Bulldogs won 11 straight, before falling by two points to Baylor. Following that, Mississippi State beat Utah State on New Year’s Eve. The Bulldogs will start their SEC season on January 7th, as they head to Fayetteville, to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. Mississippi State then will host both Tennessee and Alabama.

15. Kansas Jayhawks (10-3) – Bill Self and his Kansas Jayhawks would like to have back their 80-74 loss to Davidson in Kansas City. The Jayhawks’ other than that lost to Duke and Kentucky; both elite programs. Kansas is looking for answers outside of their top scorer Thomas Robinson. The big man is leading the way with slightly under 18 points per game. Kansas will start the Big 12 season with a tough game on the slate. On Wednesday, the Jayhawks will host the Kansas State Wildcats. Following that, Kansas plays at Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

16. Kansas State Wildcats (11-1) – The Kansas State Wildcats are the third team out of the Big 12 ranked in the Top 25. The Wildcats have just one loss on the season; which came in double overtime to West Virginia. The Wildcats are coming off a huge win over Howard on New Year’s Eve. Kansas State is led in scoring by Rodney McGruder, who is scoring 12.5 points per game. The Wildcats have a brutal start to the Big 12 season. On Wednesday, the Wildcats play at Kansas. Following that, Kansas State hosts both Missouri and Baylor.

17. Marquette Golden Eagles (12-2) – Out of the Big East, the Marquette Golden are 12-2 on the season. The Golden Eagles two losses came at LSU, and then at home with Vanderbilt. The loss to the Commodores last week came by 17 points. The Golden Eagles bounced back with a conference win over Villanova by four. Marquette is led in scoring by Darius Johnson-Odom, with just under 18 points per game. Marquette will look to stay unbeaten in Big East play, as they play at Georgetown and at Syracuse in their next two games.

18. UNLV Running Rebels (15-2) – The UNLV Running Rebels moved to 18 in the power rankings with their 15-2 record. The Running Rebels two losses came to Wichita State and Wisconsin. UNLV has many notable wins on the season, including North Carolina, UTEP, Illinois and California. The Running Rebels are scoring 80.8 points per game. UNLV will play at California-Santa Barbara on January 5th, before starting the Mountain West Conference season at San Diego State on January 14th.

19. Murray State Racers (14-0) – Out of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Murray State Racers are 14-0. The Racers won their second conference game of the season on December 30th, blasting the Panthers of Eastern Illinois. The Racers are led in scoring by Isaiah Canaan, and his 17.7 points per game. The Racers play in a huge conference game, against one of their top competitors – Eastern Kentucky. The two teams will get together on January 4th. On January 7th, the Racers will play at Austin Peay.

20. Florida Gators (11-3) – Billy Donovan and his Florida Gators come in ranked 20th in the power rankings. The Gators are 11-3, with losses to Ohio State, Syracuse, and most recently at Rutgers. Florida ranks fourth in the country in scoring, with 85.9 points per game. Kenny Boynton is the leading scorer for the team with slightly under 20 per game. The Gators will host UAB on Tuesday, and then begin their SEC play with a road game at Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.

21. Michigan Wolverines (12-2) – The Michigan Wolverines are 12-2 with losses to Duke and Virginia on the season. Michigan has won seven in a row since the November 29th loss. The Wolverines are led in scoring by Tim Hardaway Jr. with 15.6 per game. Michigan started their Big Ten schedule with two home games; both wins over Penn State and Minnesota. Michigan will play at Indiana on Thursday, followed by home games against Wisconsin and Northwestern.

22. Creighton Blue Jays (11-2) – Out of the Missouri Valley Conference, the Creighton Blue Jays enter the Top 25. The Blue Jays have losses to St. Joseph, and then their conference opener to Missouri State. The Blue Jays are the second best assist team in America. The Blue Jays are dishing out just shy of 20 assists per game. Creighton’s notable non-conference wins came over Iowa, Nebraska, San Diego State and Northwestern. The Blue Jays will host Drake on Tuesday, and then play at Bradley on Saturday.

23. Virginia Cavaliers (12-1) – Out of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Virginia Cavaliers are the third team in the rankings. The Cavaliers are 12-1, with their lone loss coming on November 18th to TCU. Following that loss, the Cavaliers have won 10 straight games. Virginia is led in scoring by Mike Scott, with 16.3 points per game. Virginia’s most recent win came on the road at LSU, where they won by 5 points. The Cavaliers will host Miami, before playing games at Duke and Georgia Tech.

24. San Diego State Aztecs (12-2) – The second team out of the Mountain West Conference is the San Diego State Aztecs. The Aztecs are 12-2, with losses to Baylor and Creighton. The Aztecs have won five straight games, including a win over Pac-Ten’s California. The Aztecs are led in scoring by Chase Tapley, with 17.3 points per game. San Diego State takes on Chicago State in their final non-conference game, before host the UNLV Running Rebels on January 14th.

25. Harvard Crimson (12-1) – Out of the Ivy League, the Harvard Crimson are 12-1 on the season. Harvard’s lone loss came at the Connecticut Huskies, by 14 points. Since that loss, the Crimson have won four straight games, including a win over St. Joseph on December 31st. The Crimson are winning games, despite ranking in the bottom half in points per game, with 67.2 per game. Harvard will play at Fordham on January 3rd, and then welcome Dartmouth to campus on January 7th.
