Our writers preview the 2006 season for the Minnesota Vikings |
Over the past couple years, the Minnesota Vikings seemed to have been a team loaded with talent that continued to under achieve. Part of the reason many Vikings fans felt this happened was because of the lack of consistency from Coach Mike Tice. Now that Brad Childress, a disciplinarian who coached under Andy Reid, is leading the squad, the Vikings may finally reach their full potential. The Vikings will be running the same style of the west coast offense that was run in Philadelphia. If Brad Johnson can lead as effectively as last year, and running back Chester Taylor proves he is worthy of a starting spot, then the west coast offense could be very effective. On the defensive side of the ball, the Vikings should be very solid. They have a very strong defensive line, which is also very deep. This will allow the big tackles up front to be rested and get after the quarterback in the fourth quarter. Minnesota also has a very strong and experienced secondary, led by safety Darren Sharper and cornerback Antoine Winfield. If the linebackers can pick up their game and plug the holes in the running game as well as help out across the middle, this defense can be one of the better in the NFL. While the Minnesota Vikings are loaded with talent once again, this may finally be the year that they have the discipline and consistency to go deep into the playoffs.
