Our writers preview the 2006 season for the Tennessee Titans |
The Tennessee Titans, who chose to part ways with long time quarterback Steve McNair, had one of the best off-seasons in the NFL. The Titans have a very capable back up with Billy Volek, which allowed them to choose a somewhat risky quarterback in Vince Young. Young had one of the greatest National Championship games ever against USC, and showed that his up-side is worth taking the chance and outweighs his unorthodox mechanics. Young is tall, fast, athletic, and has a great arm. The only question is how much his mechanics have to be tweaked before he is NFL ready. The team also took a chance with LenDale White, a very skilled running back out of USC that was criticized for his work ethic when he showed up overweight to the combine. If White pans out, he has a chance to be one of the better running backs in the game. The Titans also helped themselves greatly through free agency, signing former Patriots wide receiver David Givens and free safety Chris Hope. Givens will help to take some pressure off Billy Volek, as he is used to playing in complex offenses and for winning programs. While the Titans will not be a playoff contender this season, they are defiantly headed in the right direction. They have the quarterback of the future in Vince Young, a talented young running back with LenDale White, and a solid receiving core that will be able to get the job done. The major question for the Titans this season will be if and when they should go with Vince Young.
