Our writers preview the 2006 season for the Seattle Seahawks |
The Seattle Seahawks, who represented the NFC in last year’s Super Bowl, are far and away the best team in the NFC West this season. The Seahawks did exactly what they should have during this off-season: they kept their core in-tact. Seattle re-signed MVP running-back Shaun Alexander, which was their first area of business to take care of. Along with Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, they put together one of the most potent offenses in the NFL; an offense that could once again take them to the Super Bowl. And while the Seahawks did lose wide-receiver Joe Jurevicius to free agency, they signed Nate Burleson from the Vikings, who just two years ago was one of the most explosive wide-outs in the league. On the defensive side of the ball the Seahawks went out and signed OLB Julian Peterson, a Pro Bowl caliber linebacker who can rush the passer as well as cover backs out of the backfield. Peterson is known for tremendous speed and his play-making ability. The Seattle Seahawks are undoubtedly the controlling factor in the NFC West this season. They have the reigning MVP, a Pro Bowl quarterback, a great line-backing core in Julian Peterson, Lofa Tatupu, and LeRoy Hill, as well as a very solid receiving core. The only area of concern for the Seahawks is their secondary, which ranked 28th in the NFL last season against the pass. If their secondary can mesh together and stay healthy, Seattle could be once again heading to the Super Bowl.
