Our writers preview the 2006 season for the New Orleans Saints |
The New Orleans Saints got one of the best breaks in the league over the off-season when Reggie Bush fell into their laps at the two spot in the NFL Draft. Bush gives the Saints a great one two-punch in the backfield alongside Deuce McAllister. They should compliment each other nicely, as McAllister is more suited for an entire NFL game, while Bush can break one for a touchdown from any spot on the field. Bush will not only help the Saints greatly on offense, but will also give them a great return man. The Saints also signed a good quarterback, Drew Brees, to replace the struggling Aaron Brooks. Brees, McAllister, Horn and Bush will give the saints one of the most explosive offenses in the league in 2006. However, they will not get the results they are looking for in the wins and loss column if they don’t start blocking. The Saints have a very make-shift offensive line this season and could be their Achilles Heal. The Saints also have some question marks on defense as well. While Will Smith is one of the best defensive ends in the league, the Saints don’t have any other big time players. If this squad does not come together and find a way to slow down opposing offenses, the Saints will likely find themselves in the basement of the NFC South.
