Our writers preview the 2006 season for the Miami Dolphins |
The Miami Dolphins are a team that is looking very bright heading into 2006. Nick Saban is heading into his second season with the team, and had them playing very well towards the end of last year. Miami finished the 2006 season with a 9-7 record, and could have very easily been a playoff team if they had gotten better play from the quarterback position. Now that the Dolphins have a veteran quarterback who knows how to win in Daunte Culpepper, this offense should improve mightily. Although Culpepper is coming off a serious knee injury which ended his 2005 campaign, there is a very good chance he will be the starter in week one. Along with Culpepper, the Dolphins also have a big play running back in Ronnie Brown, a game breaking tight-end in Randy McMichael, and a deep threat in Chris Chambers. If this offense can stay healthy and show consistency, they can be one of the best in the league. The Dolphins also greatly improved their defense. Miami selected FS Jason Allen in the Draft, signed CB Will Allen from the Giants, and added S Deke Cooper to help out a secondary which ranked 20th in the NFL a season ago. If the secondary can help slow down the passing game of opposing offenses, this team is very dangerous. The front seven of the Dolphins consists of big named superstars like Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor, who together can both get off the passer and shut down the run game. While the Miami Dolphins have several question marks heading into the season, if Daunte Culpepper can stay healthy this is a team that can very easily go deep into the playoffs.
