Our writers preview the 2006 season for the Kansas City Chiefs |
The Kansas City Chiefs are a team a lot of people are not only talking about to win the AFC West, but to win the Super Bowl as well. Along with perhaps the best offense in the NFL, the Chiefs now have a coach with a defensive mind-set, Herm Edwards. Edwards’ attention to detail should give the defense a much needed boost. The Chiefs did not take long to give Edwards some defensive weapons to work with. Kansas City drafted defensive end Tamba Hali with their first draft pick. Hali was an All American end at Penn State that played with tenacity on every play. Along with Hali, the Chiefs also acquired cornerback Ty Law from the Jets. Law should give this secondary some much needed help, and along with Patrick Surtain will allow the Chiefs to play much more man coverage and be more aggressive up front. On the offensive side of the ball, Kansas City is dominant across the board. They have perhaps the best running back in the NFL, Larry Johnson, who last year ran for over 1,700 yards. Along with Johnson, Trent Green is also one of the best at his trade. Green has been to several Pro Bowls, spreading the ball around to the likes of Tony Gonzalez and Eddie Kennison. If the Chiefs offensive line continues to dominate in the trenches, giving Johnson room to run and Green time to pick apart opposing secondaries, the Chiefs may very well be heading to the Super Bowl in 2006.
