Our writers preview the 2006 season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! |
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were one of the biggest over achievers in the league last season. The Bucs had a rookie running back, Cadillac Williams, an inexperienced quarterback in Chris Simms, and an offensive line that was mediocre at best. Yet the Bucs earned a home game in the post season and came within one over-turned play of knocking off the Redskins. Things should only get better for Tampa in 2006, as Cadillac Williams has a full year under his belt and is now used to the wear and tear of a full NFL Season. Chris Simms will become more comfortable in the pocket and should become much more efficient. The Bucs also have a very good receiving core with Michael Clayton and Joey Galloway, who made big play after big play a year ago. While Clayton regressed a little bit from his rookie year in 2005, Galloway picked up the slack with an outstanding season. Tampa also has its usual great defense, with play makers like Derrick Brooks and Ronde Barber. If Tampa plays up to its potential under Jon Gruden in 2006, and Chris Simms continues to improve, not only will Tampa have one of the best young offenses in the league, but they may have a team capable of going deep into the playoffs.
