Our writers preview the 2006 season for the Cincinnati Bengals |
The Cincinnati Bengals had one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL last season. Accompany the talent that Cincinnati has been drafting for the past ten years with the presence of Coach Marvin Lewis and you have a formula for success. Cincinnati is clearly one of the Super Bowl contenders in the NFL this season, as they were well on track to make a run last year until Carson Palmer’s season was cut short against the Steelers in the playoffs. If Palmer’s leg heels for the season, which it looks like it will, this offense could be the best in football. With targets like Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh, as well as a dynamic running game, there is no reason this offense can’t carry Cincinnati straight to the Super Bowl. As for the Bengals defense, they have improved the weakest part of their team: the defensive line. Cincinnati acquired DT Sam Adams from the Ravens, who should help stuff the run. This will prove to be vital in a division that loves to be physical and pound the football. The rest of the defense is already pretty sound, as they have a solid line-backing core as well as a secondary that loves to attack the football and create turnovers. All the pieces are in place for a Super Bowl run in Cincinnati, as long as Carson Palmer can return to form and the defensive line can find a way to stop the run, the Bengals may be headed for greatness.
