2006 NFL Football Draft Picks - Ernie Simms

Number 9 Pick: Detroit Lions – Ernie Simms (LB, Florida State)

Ernie Simms boosted his stock from a late first round draft pick to a top 10 selection with his outstanding play at the end of the season. While Simms is under 6’0 and weighs only 230 pounds, he makes up for it by hitting like a truck. Simms is extremely athletic and can make all types of plays. Although he is not as big as other linebackers in the draft, he plays a lot bigger. Simms has no trouble shedding blocks to make plays in the backfield and will be able to cover bother tight ends and running backs. Some of the concerns on Simms are that he is prone to injury and got into a little bit of trouble in Miami before the Orange Bowl.
