Bankroll Sports columnists have provided an NFL football team preview on the 2008 New York Jets. Read for information on what to expect from the Jets for the upcoming 2008 NFL Football Picks season. |
The 2007 NFL season was a letdown for the New York Jets at 4 – 12. They are certainly looking to improve this season and make a run at the playoffs. However, they are still in the AFC East with the New England Patriots. The Jets aren’t good enough yet to take the division title out of New England, but they are good enough for a Wild Card entry into the post season.
The main problem for the Jets remains their quarterback situation. Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens both had ineffective years in 2007 and as a result the Jets have not named a starter yet. This is a team that is in the midst of rebuilding and is still probably a year or two away from consistently winning football games in the NFL. Despite their growing problems under center, the Jets have a good running and receiving game. Thomas Jones is a solid running back who should improve his yards per carry this year due to the acquisition of Alan Faneca from Pittsburgh. Although a seasoned veteran, Faneca is still one of the best guards in football. The receiving corps should be in good hands with Laveranues Coles.
Vernon Gholston was a great draft day pickup for the Jets and should make an immediate impact. He is a fierce rusher and saves his best play for the biggest games. The Jets moved to punch up their offense by trading up for tight end Dustin Keller. He may be the needed extra pair of hands that the Jets need to keep the football moving down the field. They shored up their secondary with Dwight Lowery who should play well with Darrelle Revis. The Jets have a tough schedule in November with three road games versus Buffalo, New England and Tennessee.
