Week 2 of the 2011 NFL campaign is going to get underway
this weekend. Below you will find the current list of 2011 Week 2 NFL lines and spreads along with a breakdown of the Week 2 NFL odds. Be sure to check out the free NFL picks from the expert handicappers at Bankroll Sports this week…
There are a slew of teams in Week 1 that really didn’t play up to their potential, and they have really paid the price in terms of their NFL betting odds in Week 2.
Case in point: The Kansas City Chiefs were big favorites in Week 1, but all of a sudden, they are nine point underdogs on the road against a Detroit Lions team that may or may not be all that special. This is the first time that the Lions have been favored in a game by more than a TD since 2000, and if they cover the spread, it’ll be the first time that they do so as more than seven point favorites since 1997.
However, the Chiefs aren’t the biggest underdogs on the Week 2 betting lines. Not hardly. The Carolina Panthers, in spite of the fact that QB Cam Newton broke virtually every rookie debut record in the books last week against the Arizona Cardinals, are 10 point home underdogs against the defending champs, the Green Bay Packers.
In the biggest of the NFL Week 2 lines (largest spread), the Pittsburgh Steelers, who were blown away last week, are 14 point favorites against the Seattle Seahawks.
Two teams that were badly embarrassed in Week 1 are going to face off at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Indianapolis Colts are actually home underdogs against the Cleveland Browns of 1.5 points. This could be a real sign that Indy is on its way to a truly horrendous season and aren’t just trying to play off a bad game against the Houston Texans last week. This should be a big test for QB Kerry Collins, who really looked like he was washed up last week.
The NBC Sunday Night Football betting battle this week is one of the better showdowns of the year. QB Michael Vick will make his return to the Peach State for the first time against the Atlanta Falcons. His Philadelphia Eagles are slender 2.5 point favorites after posting a huge win on the road last week against the St. Louis Rams. It’s anyone’s guess how this one is going to go, but after starting off at 0-1, Atlanta really needs to make sure that it doesn’t drop to 0-2, something that would be a huge strain on its chances to make the postseason.

That Atlanta/Philly game had the highest ‘total’ of all the week 2 NFL lines and the highest total thus far in the season. The 50 on the board is going to be the highest ‘total’ for quite some time in all likelihood as well, as these two offenses really could be two of the best in the game right now. Of course, once all of the lines came out on Tuesday, the New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers eclipsed that number, posting a ‘total’ of 52. And no wonder! QB Tom Brady and QB Philip Rivers could combine for over 700 passing yards in this one if the two put the pill in the air as much as they did last week. Brady alone threw for 517.
The majority of the ‘totals’ on the board as of Monday night are posted in the mid-40s, with three games lined between 44 and 45.5. In fact, there are only three games of the 10 listed that are in the 30s. The lowest of the bunch is a split at 37.5 in the games between the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans, and the one between the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
**Update (9/16)**: It’s also worth noting when you’re looking at ‘totals’ for this week, that only one ‘total’ dropped over the course of the week, that being the number in the Philly/Atlanta Sunday Night Football game. Every other one of the ‘totals’ either stayed the same or rose, and some of the ‘totals’ like the ones in the Cleveland/Indianapolis clash came up 2.5 points!
