As of Sunday night, there are only seven games that are on the board for the NFL Week 8 betting lines. We will update this page again on Tuesday night with a full set of odds posted, so please check back.
There are a number of games of note that are currently off the board which you should check back for the proper lines later in the week.
The Detroit Lions have now lost two games in a row, and they are all of a sudden in a lot of trouble in the NFC North. We now know that they are probably only competing for a Wild Card spot, of which there is plenty of competition. Now, they have to travel to the Rockies for the first home game for QB Tim Tebow this year as a starter. Tebow won his first game last week against the Miami Dolphins, but he didn’t put a point on the board for the first 55 minutes of the game against one of the worst defenses that the league has to offer.
The team that handed Detroit its first loss was the San Francisco 49ers, who are coming off of their bye week last week. They have a tough game this week against the Cleveland Browns at home, but there really shouldn’t be a problem moving to 6-1. If this game is won, the truth of the matter is that the 49ers should be counting down their magic number for the playoffs.

Rookie quarterbacks are going to be squaring off this week on Tobacco Road. QB Cam Newton for the Carolina Panthers will take on QB Christian Ponder for the Minnesota Vikings. The Minnesota offense looked good under Ponder’s direction last week, which was a great step in the right direction for a team that really isn’t going anywhere any time in the near future. Carolina is getting the nod by 3.5 points at home, and ironically, this is one of the highest ‘totals’ on the board thus far this week at 47.
Meanwhile, teams that are starting to fall a bit are going to try to salvage their season in Toronto when the Buffalo Bills face the Washington Redskins. The Skins are in quarterback crisis right now, as neither QB John Beck nor QB Rex Grossman really has the ability to do the job. Buffalo is 4-2 and is coming off of its bye week, and it is going to be motivated for this game. The “hosts” are 4.5 point favorites against the struggling Skins.
Also in the 4:00 ET games, the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the New England Patriots in a duel between two of the perennial powers in the AFC. The Steelers have seemed to find their winning mojo, but they still don’t feel like they are convincing quite yet. New England has done very little wrong this year, and it hasn’t been beaten since right at the beginning of the season by the Bills on the road. This is a tougher road test at Heinz Field, but the hosts are still 2.5 point underdogs.

The primetime games this week are as good as they have been all season long. On Sunday Night Football, NFC East rivals and arch enemies meet in the City of Brotherly Love. The Philadelphia Eagles are 3.5 point favorites over the Dallas Cowboys, but you can bet that the boys from Big D are going to be topics of some hot action for NFL bettors as well. QB Tony Romo and QB Michael Vick are two of the most electric, yet controversial quarterbacks in the league. Neither of these teams are on good footing right now in the postseason picture, and the loser is going to be in a ton of trouble.
On Monday Night Football, the AFC West lead will be handed out. The San Diego Chargers were made to look a bit more mortal in Week 7 against the New York Jets, losing on the road for the second time this year. They’re still a half game up on the Oakland Raiders in the division, but all of a sudden, after three losses to start off the year, the Kansas City Chiefs have won three in a row and are just a game back in the division race. Arrowhead Stadium will be rocking and rolling this week, especially after the Bolts fired the first salvo in this series earlier this year. The hosts are four point underdogs.
