Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones vs. Oakland Raiders
Someone has to be able to catch some passes from QB Matt Schaub this week, right? That being said, the Oakland secondary just doesn’t feel complete anymore without DB Nnamdi Asomugha. Sure, WR Andre Johnson isn’t in the lineup, and sure, FB James Casey and TE Owen Daniels have been stealing the show, but with a full week of preparation, we tend to think that both Walter and Jones might make for great fantasy plays at home against Oakland. Remember with Jones that you’re also getting a great return man, and you might find yourself a hidden touchdown or two.

New England Patriots D/ST vs. New York Jets
Most of you have probably cut the Pats’ defense by now after its terrible start to the season. By standard league rules, you haven’t even averaged two points per game if you have started New England. That being said, the Jets allowed the Baltimore Ravens to score three times on defense last week. Don’t think for one second that Head Coach Bill Belichick wasn’t looking at that tape and smiling. The teams that have been able to throw the ball on New England have played well on the offensive line. New York doesn’t have that luxury. C Nick Mangold might be back in the fold this week, but if he isn’t or if he isn’t totally effective, don’t be shocked if the Pats come away with four or five sacks and a few turnovers in addition to keeping the Jets to a relatively low score.

Malcom Floyd vs. Denver Broncos
Someone has to get all of the passing yards from QB Philip Rivers, right? The Broncos have a dreadful pass defense, as demonstrated last week when QB Aaron Rodgers accounted for six total touchdowns against them. And, to make matters even more sneaky for Floyd this week, he has been the top receiver that has been practicing. Both WR Vincent Jackson and TE Antonio Gates have been on the sidelines. Jackson will probably play, but the added time for Floyd is going to be fantastic for him come game time, especially if Jackson does end up hobbled at any point. We wouldn’t be surprised if this were a game that Floyd, Mike Tolbert, and potentially even Randy McMichael end up finding the end zone.

Scott Chandler vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Another tight end scored a touchdown on the Eagles last week, as TE Vernon Davis found his way to the end zone as a part of the big comeback by the San Francisco 49ers. Now, it could be Chandler’s turn to shine again. Chandler only has 11 receptions on the year, but four of those have gone for TDs. We’re not as afraid of WRs Steve Johnson and David Nelson this week, though both will get their yards. If RB Fred Jackson doesn’t have one of these three touchdown days, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Chandler get his name in the box score with a touchdown strike.

Thanks to a number of critical injuries that were suffered in Week 4, there aren’t a whole heck of a lot of games that are listed on the board as of Monday morning on the NFL betting lines, so be sure to check back to this article later in the week when we have all of the games updated.

What we do know is that the Philadelphia Eagles are in a lot of trouble. This is the first week that QB Michael Vick hasn’t come out of the game slightly banged up, but that’s about where the good news stops for the supposed “dream team.” The Eagles are just 1-3, looking straight up at everyone in the NFC East (and it should be by two games to everyone in the division), and now, they have to go on the road to Ralph Wilson Stadium, where two good teams have already been beaten this year. The Bills are coming off of that loss at the Cincinnati Bengals in which they were shocked at the gun by a Mike Nugent field goal. There’s still no respect for Buffalo yet, as it is a three point home underdog once again.

Speaking of road underdogs, that’s what both the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers are as well. The Bolts are heading into Invesco Field to tango with the Denver Broncos, who were just utterly embarrassed at Lambeau Field this past weekend. This AFC West clash is almost always tight, so don’t miss out on it for sure. Meanwhile at Bank of America Stadium, the Carolina Panthers are going in search of their third win of the year. QB Cam Newton has thrown for at least 300 yards in all three of Carolina’s losses, but didn’t even reach 160 yards in its one win. Go figure. The Saints are hot right now, having just won a great road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they are six point road favorites in this one.

And then there is the NFC North… Both the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions are undefeated, and both are playing in primetime this week. The Pack return to the proverbial scene of the crime, where they really got their playoff run going last year at the Georgia Dome. The Atlanta Falcons were humiliated on their home turf against Green Bay in their first playoff game, and they are definitely out for some retribution. They’re not going to have it easy though, as they are four point underdogs.

Finally, we’ll wrap up with the Detroit Lions at the Chicago Bears. This NFC North rivalry has always been one dominated by the boys from the Windy City. Not anymore, though! The Lions have posted back to back amazing comebacks, including erasing a 24 point deficit last week at the Dallas Cowboys. Now, they’re off to their first 4-0 start in over three decades and are looking to do one better. They could be the last undefeated team standing by Monday should Green Bay lose. Did you ever think that it would be possible that the 1972 Miami Dolphins would be popping the cork over a Lions game? Believe it. Detroit is a six point favorite to move to 5-0.

On Monday night, the New England Patriots opened up as nine point favorites against the New York Jets. This is one of the biggest games of the year for the Pats, as they would drop their second game in division with a loss in this one. Still, New York has played back to back absolutely pitiful games on the road, and this is the toughest of the three tests in all likelihood. QB Tom Brady doesn’t have a great history against this New York defense, but there is definitely something about this team right now that just doesn’t look right.

Week 5 of the 2011 college football campaign is going to get underway this weekend. Below you will find the current list of 2011 Week 5 NCAA football lines and spreads along with a breakdown of the Week 5 college football lines. For the second straight week, there aren’t a whole heck of a lot of games that are expected to be tremendous blowouts. The only one in a conference game of note features the new No. 1 team in the land, the LSU Tigers going against the Kentucky Wildcats. LSU hasn’t played in a whole heck of a lot of home games yet this year, but Tiger Stadium is sure to be rocking when it welcomes its hometown heroes back to the Bayou. The Cats, who were just stomped by the Florida Gators, are 30 point underdogs.

The biggest underdogs of the week though, are the lowly Ball State Cardinals, who have to take flight against the Oklahoma Sooners, the other team that is No. 1 in a human poll. Oklahoma is a whopping 37.5 point favorite.

Of course, it’s just as hard to find games between two ranked teams this week as well. In fact, there are only four games that are pitting a pair of Top 25-ers against each other.

This is going to be the second straight week that we are talking about the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies playing in a tough, tough fixture. Both teams were beaten on the road last week, and now, they hit a traditional rival playing against the other. One of these two is likely to clearly fall out of the Top 25 in the country, while the other will likely resurrect its chances to be in the BCS Championship Game. With no true home field advantage since this game is being played in Arlington, Texas A&M is favored by three points.

The Clemson Tigers also won a great Top 25 showdown last week against the Florida State Seminoles, but things are about to get a heck of a lot harder for them. Instead of being in the comfortable confines of Death Valley, Clemson has to hit the road to Lane Stadium to take on a hungry set of Virginia Tech Hokies, who are in the Top 10 in the land once again. The hosts are favored by a touchdown.

And then there are the games that have the most meaning to them…

In the nightcap, the Nebraska Cornhuskers will be welcomed into the Big 10 with open arms. For their first ever Big 10 showdown, they have to go on the road… to Camp Randall… at night… to deal with the Wisconsin Badgers. QB Russell Wilson and the “Jumpin’ Around” crew have absolutely steamrolled their opponents this year, and the hope in Madison is that this is no exception whatsoever. That being said, QB Taylor Martinez and the Huskers are hoping that a gritty non-conference slate can help them get over the hump in this tough fixture. That being said, Wisconsin is hard to ignore as a bona fide favorite even though these are both Top 10 teams in the country. It’s got the 9.5 point head start on the Huskers according to the college football lines.

The other crucial game pitting a pair of arch rivals against each other is the clash in the Swamp between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators. This is the game that we will finally see whether the Gators are indeed for real or not. They have crushed virtually everything that has gotten in their way this year, not playing a single game with the final margin of victory being less than 10 points. However, there hasn’t been much competition to speak of, and this is the beginning of a brutal, brutal month of October for the blue and orange. Alabama has already survived one of these big time road tests at the Penn State Nittany Lions, and you can bet that that experience is going to be crucial for a relatively inexperienced offense under QB AJ McCarron. Alabama is a 4.5 point choice of the oddsmakers.

There are most certainly some tricky spots for some teams this week as well. We’ll start on Thursday, where the South Florida Bulls have to go on the road for just the second time this year at the Pitt Panthers. One would figure that USF wouldn’t have any problems in this fixture, since the Notre Dame Fighting Irish just came into Heinz Field and posted a win, especially since the Bulls already took care of the Irish in South Bend this year. However, with the bright lights of ESPN’s Thursday Night Football looming, the Panthers are only 2.5 point underdogs.

The Air Force Falcons and the Navy Midshipmen will duke it out in the first battle for the Commander In Chief Trophy this year. Navy’s triple option is favored over Air Force’s triple option by 2.5 even though both of these teams have been remarkable offensively this season.

The Baylor Bears are up to No. 16 in the country, but though they are 3-0, they are going to have a lot of work to do to be able to stay ranked this week. They’re traveling to the “Little Apple” to take on the Kansas State Wildcats, another team that has yet to be beaten this season. Baylor is getting a lot of respect as a 3.5 point favorite, but we know that that game has the potential to be one of the best ones on the board.

Other games of note…

The Michigan State Spartans are three point underdogs in what could amount to be a Big 10 elimination game against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the ‘Shoe… The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets survived their first ACC test of the year against the North Carolina Tar Heels, but now, they have to go to the NC State Wolfpack, who are on a long week after losing on Thursday night. The Ramblin’ Wreck are favored by a dozen… The Utah Utes play their first Pac-12 game at home on Saturday night as well, welcoming the Washington Huskies to town. Utah is favored by 7.5… Also in the 7:00 hour, the Texas Longhorns are 10 point road favorites at the Iowa State Cyclones in a battle of two teams that are 3-0, and the South Carolina Gamecocks are 11 point favorites to move to 5-0 against the defending National Champions, the Auburn Tigers.

A very interesting week for NFL betting fans is ahead, as the football odds for Week 5 are out. Ironically, the biggest underdog on the board this week is the league’s last undefeated team, the Kansas City Chiefs. They’re coming off of their bye week and are clearly getting thoroughly disrespected in this duel with the Indianapolis Colts, as they are eight point pups. Indianapolis has plenty of reasons to be upset after losing to a 59 yard field goal at the end of last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and we all saw what this team did when it was angry the last time it was playing a game off of a defeat… QB Eli Manning doesn’t want to see his big brother, QB Peyton Manning again.

Once again, road favorites seem to be the norm for the week, as there are a slew of so called “better teams” that have to go on the road to try to snare wins against “lesser teams.”

The Cleveland Browns are one of the disrespected home underdogs on the NFL odds for Week Five, as they are three point pups to the Atlanta Falcons. Does this situation look familiar? Last week, the Brownies were three point dogs to open up against the Cincinnati Bengals as well, as they came away with the outright victory.

The biggest road favorites are the New Orleans Saints. The oddsmakers are taking a big chance on New Orleans, as this crew really doesn’t have much in the way of a running game right now with RB Pierre Thomas out of the lineup. The Saints struggled mightily with the Carolina defense last week. Arizona’s biggest problems have come on the road, where it has gotten crushed by both the Atlanta Falcons and the San Diego Chargers. This is at home though, and it seems like there are favorable NFL trends point towards the hosts as seven point underdogs on Sunday afternoon.

Last week, the NFL oddsmakers were burned by making the Tennessee Titans nearly full touchdown favorites at home against the Denver Broncos. HC Josh McDaniels’ crew came away with the outright upset by the count of 26-20, and now Tennessee has to head to “Big D” to fight with the Dallas Cowboys, who are still trying to salvage their season after an 0-2 start. Owner Jerry Jones’ men are favored by 6.5 points on the opening NFL lines.

The highest ‘total’ on the board this week is in the clash between the New York Giants and Houston Texans at 48. Neither team has had much success on defense in recent weeks, and the Texans offense is putting points on the board left and right against everyone that it faces.

The lowest ‘total’ of all the week 5 NFL lines used to be the Monday Night Football tussle between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets, but after the news that the Chicago Bears were going to be without QB Jay Cutler, the ‘total’ between the Bears and the Carolina Panthers is only 33.

Many at the outset of the year thought that this was going to be the biggest week of college football betting action in quite some time. It will inevitably be known as “Separation Saturday” for a number of teams, as the top schools in the land seemingly all collide in what should be a real spectacle for NCAA football betting fans to feast their eyes and their wagers into.

The highlight game, of course, is going to be the duel at Bryant Denny Stadium between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators. These two teams have split their last two encounters, both of which have been in the SEC Championship Game. The winner has moved on to the National Championship Game and won that encounter as well. This year, the meeting is just as crucial even though it won’t be as decisive as the SEC Championship. This could very well be the first of two meetings of these teams. Will HC Urban Meyer’s defense be able to stand up to the potent offense of the Crimson Tide? Can QB John Brantley go into one of the most hallowed stadiums in college football and come out with a victory? If he does, it will come as a huge upset, as the Gators are hefty nine point underdogs.

The ‘undercard’ game of sorts will be played at the Cotton Bowl this year, as the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns will meet up. This duel sort of lost a bit of its luster last week when the Longhorns were crushed at home by the UCLA Bruins in a stunning 34-12 upset, but as we all well know, this is a game in which you can throw out the record books. These two teams just hate each other, and the winner of it seemingly always goes on to represent the Big XII South in the Big XII Championship Game. Just has been the case with the Alabama/Florida winner over the L/2 seasons, the winner of this game has played in back to back National Championships, but has been defeated by the SEC champs in both cases. The Sooners are only 3.5 point favorites in spite of the fact that they are now clearly the higher ranked team.

The big rivalry game between the Boston College Eagles and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is also this weekend. These two teams hate each other about as much as two teams possibly can, and though this game doesn’t mean as much as it once did, don’t tell that to the teams involved. The Irish are 2.5 point road favorites, but inevitably, this game is going to come down to the very end regardless.

One of the biggest road favorites of the weekend are the TCU Horned Frogs, who are expected to easily roll over the Colorado State Rams. They are 33 point chalks even though they are on the road. The Horned Frogs are one of six favorites this week of at least 20 points. The biggest favorites, to no surprise though, are the Boise State Broncos. After rolling past the Oregon State Beavers last week, the Broncos are stunning 41.5 point favorites against the New Mexico State Aggies in Las Cruces.

Our quick rundown of the week five NFL spreads (which are displayed below); For the second week in a row the favorites dominated the underdogs, giving the public some confidence and making the bookmaker’s lives miserable. 10 out of 14 favorites (based on the opening week 4 NFL lines) won in week 4. Favorites were 11-5 in week 3 and 10-4 in week 4, making the underdogs overdue to cash in week 5 of the NFL season. Home-dogs did better overall on Sunday as they went 3-1 ATS. Overs/Unders were 8-5-1 ATS which continued to do damage to bookmakers. The biggest road favorite in week five in the (2-2) Pittsburgh Steelers, who are giving 10½ points on the road vs. the (1-3) Detroit Lions. There are two massive 15 point favorites in the (4-0) New York Giants -15 @ (1-3) Oakland, which opened at 16 point, and the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers are getting 15 from the (2-1) Philadelphia Eagles who will be getting their star-quaterback Donovan McNabb back. One game is still off the board in the (2-2) Jacksonville Jags who are playing at the (1-3) Seattle Seahawks, where quarterback Matt Hasselbeck’s status is still uncertain. The biggest home-dog of the week five NFL lines is the struggling (0-4) Kansas City Chiefs who are 8½ point dogs at home vs. the (2-2) Dallas Cowboys, who struggled in week 4 at Denver. Speaking of Denver, the (4-0) Broncos are also a home underdog as they are getting 3 from the New England Patriots.
