And then there were four… There are only two games on the NFL schedule that are left before the Super Bowl, and here at Bankroll Sports, we’re taking a close look by doing our NFC Championship Preview and odds breakdown, and our AFC Championship Game preview and odds breakdown.

The first game on Sunday is the AFC Championship Game, pitting the Baltimore Ravens up against the New England Patriots. These two teams were the top two seeds in the conference, and save for a few weeks when the Houston Texans were in the fray, these were the top two teams in the AFC all season long.

Baltimore has taken the very, very tough road to reach this point, as it has had to play a number of tough games both at home and on the road this year. The Ravens are a perfect 7-0 in games against playoff teams this year, and they have to hope that they can keep that up when they go into Foxboro on Sunday.

The Patriots certainly have the talent to do some real damage though, and with the amount of just raw skill that they have out there on the field, they are deserving favorites. Sure, the schedule has been weak this year, and sure they don’t have a single win against a team that finished above .500 since last December, but the Pats can score on anyone. QB Tom Brady just torched the Denver Broncos for six TDs, and he is clearly the most talented and most playoff-experienced quarterback left in the bunch.

QB Joe Flacco has a history of winning playoff games on the road in big time spots, but it seems when push comes to shove, he just can’t get his team over the hump in the games like this one. The oddsmakers don’t have a lot of confidence that he can get the job done in this one, though. Baltimore is a 7.5 point underdog, while the ‘total’ is set at a rather lofty 50.5 in the AFC Championship Game.

On the NFC Championship Game odds, we have two teams that hardly anyone saw coming. The New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers were always considered good teams this year that were probably going to be in the playoffs, but in the end, no one really, truly thought that either was going to really have the goods to play in the Super Bowl.

The 49ers must admit that they caught a break when the Giants beat the Green Bay Packers. Not only do they probably end up getting the easier game, but they also avoid the trip into Lambeau Field and force the G-Men to travel across the country for their second trip to the Bay Area this season.

You aren’t going to find a hotter quarterback right now than QB Eli Manning, who has tossed six TDs in his two playoff games thus far in the postseason. The defense has gotten the job done for the Giants as well, as the pass rush has been all over the place against both the Falcons and the Packers. QBs Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers have to be thrilled that they aren’t going to be dealing with these pass rushers like DE Jason Pierre-Paul again this season.

That being said, the Niners are the hot commodity right now. No one believed that they could get the job done against QB Drew Brees and the mighty New Orleans Saints offense, and though they did allow 32 points and almost 500 yards of offense, they forced five turnovers and were largely the more aggressive of the two teams on both sides of the ball. They feel like they deserve to be here, and for the first time in his career, QB Alex Smith is getting the respect that he deserves after being a No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft all those years ago.

Smith has a chance to fulfill his destiny if he can just hold serve at home in this game. The Giants are up against it, as San Fran has now gone 8-1 SU and 8-0-1 ATS this year when playing by the Bay. The 49ers are favored by a field goal, while the ‘total’, which was set at the same 47 that this game landed on the first time these two teams met, has since dropped to 45.

There are a number of games that aren’t really expected to be all that close this weekend, but the battle on the NFL betting lines that is expected to be a tight one is the one that is starting it all off between the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers. Consistently, we see the battles of offense versus defense going to the team that can chuck the pigskin all over the field, and that is what we are tending to already see with QB Drew Brees. Granted, no one in the history of the league has ever done it better in a single season than Brees did this year, and he proved it again by helping his team to 626 yards, an NFL record, in the first round of the playoffs.

San Fran is a totally different team though, as it runs the ball and plays sound defense. The ‘total’ on the Divisional playoff lines of 47.5 had to be ridiculously hard to come up with. The Saints have covered eight in a row and could be on the verge of something special. They are favored by 3.5 on the road and have their sights set on a rematch with the Pack from the opening night of the season at Lambeau Field. However, the 49ers have been disrespected all season long, and their 7-1 SU and 7-0-1 ATS marks here in San Fran cannot be overlooked.

On Saturday night, the New England Patriots are going to be back in action when they take on the Denver Broncos. It is going to be yet another case where QB Tim Tebow has to pull off a heck of a lot of magic on the road if he is going to keep his season alive. There is no doubt that he is the starting quarterback of this team from start to finish barring injury though, as he earned that right by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers, even if he only completed 10 passes in the entire game. QB Tom Brady has beaten a number of fantastic quarterbacks over the course of his career in the playoffs, and though this shouldn’t be the toughest task and it is certainly easier than the one that would have come from the Pittsburgh Steelers, it is one that will not be overlooked. The Pats are favored by 13.5, while the ‘total’ starts out at 50.5.

On Sunday, the Baltimore Ravens are going to play their first playoff game at home with QB Joe Flacco calling the shots. They’re going to be playing the Houston Texans, who will be on the road in the postseason in the first time in his career. Give Houston some credit for taking care of the Cincinnati Bengals in its first playoff game in team history. This is the one game that the team has absolutely nothing to lose. No one is expecting anything out of the Texans in this one after losing by 15 in Baltimore three months ago with nearly a full team. QB TJ Yates should have no hope of winning this game, but don’t tell that to Head Coach Gary Kubiak. He thinks that his team can win this game and win it outright. It’ll be a tall task, as Houston is a 7.5 point underdog. The ‘total’ is the lowest of the week at 35.5.

Finally, the Green Bay Packers will start off their playoff push against the New York Giants, who are determined to make that push as short as possible. We have seen these Giants do some remarkable things before, including when they came right here to Lambeau Field in 2008 and beat these Packers in the final game for QB Brett Favre in his career in green and gold… Oh yes, and two weeks later, they were able to beat the team that might have been the most talented in the history of football, the 18-0 Patriots.

This Green Bay team is going to be a tough one to bounce though, as save for the game on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs, it really looked unstoppable. This isn’t just a team that wins games. It is a team that absolutely cripples teams at times. That being said, QB Eli Manning did all that he could have done when these teams met in the Meadowlands earlier this year. He led the team on the game-tying TD drive with less than a minute to play, but QB Aaron Rodgers had the last laugh and led the team on the game-winning field goal drive as the clock expired.

The Giants were the best looking team in the first weekend of the playoffs, winning 24-2 over the Atlanta Falcons, whom many picked for the upset. This week, they are facing a 9.5 point hill at Lambeau. The ‘total’ is the highest of the weekend on the NFL odds at 52.5.

We’ll start in the AFC, where there aren’t a ton of teams that are really playing all that well right now. The Houston Texans looked like they were just going to run away and hide from the rest of the AFC South, but all of a sudden, after three straight losses to end the regular season, they only ended up winning the division by a single game over the Tennessee Titans, who were the last team left out of the playoffs in the conference.

In fact, Houston’s last win came against the Cincinnati Bengals, the team that it will face on Saturday to kick off the postseason. To say that this is a strange combination of postseason teams is a bit of an understatement. The Texans have never played in the playoffs in franchise history, while the Bengals were the team that everyone was just set to write off even when they were a 6-2 club. Obviously, neither team has played well offensively of late, which is why the first game of the weekend only has a ‘total’ of 39. Houston gets the nod by a field goal on the opening Wild Card weekend lines.

Later on Saturday night, we have a rematch of a clash from just over a month ago on Sunday Night Football. The Detroit Lions were no match for the New Orleans Saints that day, and that’s what it looks like is going to be the case this time around as well at the Louisiana Superdome. This is going to be the first time in NFL history that a pair of 5,000 yard quarterbacks face off in the postseason, as both QB Drew Brees and QB Matt Stafford reached that milestone. The oddsmakers are expecting a boatload of points in this game, as the ‘total’ is set at 58.5, the highest number that we have seen all season long. New Orleans is favored by 10.5, but you can bet that Head Coach Jim Schwartz is telling his team that this upset can be had, especially after last season when the Saints were beaten by the Seattle Seahawks in a very similar situation.

Sunday’s NFL playoff schedule gets started at 1:00, when the New York Giants meet the Atlanta Falcons at MetLife Stadium. The G-Men have had an up and down season, but when push has really come to shove, they have been able to win the big time games, include two against the Dallas Cowboys in the last month of the season just to get into the playoffs. The Falcons are on a high after a few really big wins, but not a lot of them have come against playoff teams. QB Eli Manning and QB Matt Ryan are two of the quarterbacks that will be carrying the league into the next decade, and they should both put on a good show on Sunday. Atlanta is a pup by a field goal, while the ‘total’ starts the week off at 49.

And that leaves the game that most are looking forward to as one of the most interesting matchups of the postseason. The Pittsburgh Steelers and their vaunted defense are going to go on the road against arguably the worst offensive team that we have ever seen in the postseason, the Denver Broncos. Denver was only able to score a single field goal in Week 17 with a playoff bid on the line against a Kansas City Chiefs defense that allowed 89 points in its first two games of the year. The Steelers haven’t played that well offensively, but this is as good of a matchup as they are going to get in terms of getting that ‘O’ going.

QB Ben Roethlisberger has been able to guide the boys in black and gold to the Super Bowl on numerous occasions, and now, it is QB Tim Tebow’s turn to prove that he can do it his way as well. If Denver is going to win this game, it is going to do it on the strength of its rushing attack for sure, as Tebow just isn’t that great of a throwing quarterback. The problem is that the Steelers year in and year out have one of the most frightening rush defenses in football. That’s why the boys from the ‘Burgh are -7.5. The ‘total’ is understandably the lowest of the weekend as well at just 35.

As always, Week 17 is one of the toughest to handicap, as there are a number of games that mean little to nothing, and others in which teams will be scoreboard watching to see how hard they should be playing to keep or gain their playoff positioning. That being said, between that and the uncertain of a number of starting quarterbacks, there are a slew of games that are off the board as of Monday afternoon.

We’ll start with the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. If they lose on Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints, this game will mean very little against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If they win in the Bayou though, it could mean the difference between the NFC South title and a Wild Card slot. Tampa Bay has lost 10 games in a row and is trying to avoid the embarrassment of closing out the season on such a terrible note. It is likely to be the final game for Head Coach Raheem Morris as well. Until all of this is sorted out though, the NFL odds are off the board in this game.

The San Francisco 49ers could be playing for a first round bye in the playoffs on Sunday at the St. Louis Rams. We know that regardless of what else happens, a win will get the job done for sure against a team that would much rather lose this game than win it. The Rams know that they need to lose this game to have a shot at the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. They’re going to be without QB Sam Bradford as well. Again, this is another game that is off the board for the time being.

QB Drew Brees is trying to break the record for the most passing yards in a season. QB Cam Newton has already smashed virtually every single rookie passing mark. If the Saints win on Monday, they’ll need a win and a San Fran loss to get a first round bye. If they lose on Monday though, they’ll need this one to clinch up the No. 3 seed. We do think that Brees will play for the record regardless of what else happens, and that being said, New Orleans will probably be favored by at least a touchdown over the Panthers, though the visitors have been awfully stingy over the past few weeks and might not go down without a fight.

Other games of note that are off the board right now… The Detroit Lions will need at least a win in all likelihood to have a shot at the No. 5 seed in the NFC, but they have the task of going into Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, who have nothing to play for, as they have already locked up the No. 1 seed in the NFC… The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns face off in the Dawg Pound. The stakes are going to be high for the Steelers, as the difference could be a first round bye and a first round road game, but until we know the status of QBs Colt McCoy and Ben Roethlisberger, there won’t be a line on the game.

There are definitely some big time games of note that do have NFL lines up for discussion this week, though…

The Tennessee Titans take on the Houston Texans in a game which the visitors need to have any chance of getting into the postseason. Tennessee hasn’t played great ball of late, but Houston has been slumping and has nothing at all to play for, knowing that it has already won the AFC South and will be the No. 3 seed in the AFC. The Titans are favored by 2.5, but that could change if the Texans decide that they want to play this game full out and use both WR Andre Johnson and Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips, both of which have been out of the fold for the past few weeks.

The biggest game in the AFC involves the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals. Baltimore needs a win to lock up a first round bye and the AFC North title, and it can also end up with the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs with some help. Meanwhile, the Bengals, who haven’t drawn anywhere near capacity at any of its games down the stretch this year in spite of their playoff push, need a win to get into the playoffs. They could also get in with a string of other team’s losses, but a win removes all doubt. Cincinnati hasn’t beaten either the Ravens or the Steelers all year long, but this is a great chance to do some damage. The Bengals are 2.5 point underdogs at home in this crucial spot.

It might not be the most important game in the world, but a loss for the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17 does ensure that they will have the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. They’re 4.5 point underdogs at the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are trying to keep Head Coach Mel Tucker around for the upcoming season.

The Miami Dolphins can end the season of the New York Jets with a win on Sunday. New York shot itself in the foot with a loss against the Giants last week, and now, it needs a win and a tremendous string of fortunate events to happen to get into the postseason. That being said, the Jets are +1 on the road, and many are expecting to just seem them get romped.

The Buffalo Bills have been terrible of late, but they did lock up a win over the Denver Broncos to hurt their playoff chances last week. Now, they take on the New England Patriots, a team that they upset early in the season at Ralph Wilson Stadium. This task won’t be nearly as easy, as they have to go into Foxboro on a day in which New England can lock up the No. 1 seed in the conference with a victory. That’s why the Pats, who had to survive a challenge last week from the Dolphins, are 12.5 point favorites.

Both the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos know that wins put them in good positions for the postseason. Oakland needs a win and a loss by Denver to win the AFC West, or it needs a win and a Cincinnati loss to win the last AFC Wild Card slot. For Denver, only a win or an Oakland loss to win the AFC West will do. The Raiders host the San Diego Chargers in Head Coach Norv Turner’s final game, while the Broncos host their former mate, QB Kyle Orton and the Kansas City Chiefs. Oakland is favored by three. Denver gets the nod by 3.5.

Finally, on Sunday Night Football, the NFL has flexed in the do-or-die game for both the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. This is the NFC East Championship Game, as the winner will finish at 9-7 and host either the Lions, Falcons, or Saints in the first round of the playoffs next week, while the loser will be watching the playoffs from the couch. New York was impressive in last week’s win over the Jets, and it may have an upper hand in this one if QB Tony Romo doesn’t play with his broken bone in his hand. This one is off the board for now, but it will surely be one of the most hotly contested games on the NFL Week 17 spreads.

It is definitely an odd week of NFL betting action, as the NFL television schedule calls for most of the games to be played on Saturday and not on Sunday because of Christmas falling right at the start of the week.

That being said, there are still plenty of games to dive right into, and we have a heck of a lot that we are already keeping our eyes on when we analyze the NFL odds for this week.

We’ll start right at the top with the Houston Texans, who are two wins away from locking up a first round bye in the playoffs. They are going to be heavily favored in their last two games, but they were big time favorites last week when they laid an egg against the Carolina Panthers as well. This week, in just their second appearance on Thursday Night Football in team history, they’ll take on the Indianapolis Colts. Houston has never won a game on Thursday in franchise history, and it is 0-9 all-time playing here in Indianapolis, whether it be at Lucas Oil Field or the old RCA Dome. That being said, the oddsmakers have some understood confidence in Houston even though the Colts have covered three in a row and logged their first win of the year last week. The Texans are favored by six.

A ton of the teams that are in the thick of the fight in the AFC playoff picture also have what should be some relatively easy games to play this week on the NFL Week 16 betting lines.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, in spite of the fact that they looked horrible in Week 15 against the 49ers, are laying 15.5 to the St. Louis Rams at home. This is probably a game that they have to win if they have dreams of winning the AFC North this year, because a loss parlayed with a win by the Baltimore Ravens against the Cleveland Browns will send the black and gold on the road in the playoffs. Baltimore is laying 13 against the Browns, who are likely going to be playing this one without QB Colt McCoy.

All of the teams that we have mentioned so far are chasing the New England Patriots, who are 11-3 and know that they control their own destiny for the top seed in the AFC. The Brady Bunch is laying 10 points on Sunday, though the task could be tough, as this is the Super Bowl for the visiting Miami Dolphins. Miami remembers allowing over 500 passing yards to QB Tom Brady in Week 1, and now that it is playing a heck of a lot better football, it would love to be a big time damper on New England’s Christmas list, which includes getting the top seed in the AFC.

Meanwhile, the rest of the teams in the AFC playoff race are in a for tremendously more difficult tasks. The only should-be slam dunk of the bunch is the Tennessee Titans, who are laying eight against the Jacksonville Jaguars at home at LP Field, but we have to remember that Tennessee was already beaten once by Jacksonville this year, and the team did lose last week to the previously winless Colts.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one point favorites against the Oakland Raiders in a game that is probably going to act as a de facto elimination game in the AFC West race. Oakland has been reeling, losing three games in a row, including last week at home in crippling fashion to the Lions at the gun. The Chiefs just beat the previously perfect Packers in the biggest upset of the season last week, and they are going to be out for blood in this one. KC is favored by a point, but even if it wins this game, it will mean nothing to it if the Denver Broncos knock off the Buffalo Bills as three point favorites at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The other team in the race in the AFC West, the San Diego Chargers, are 2.5 point underdogs at Ford Field against the Detroit Lions. They need Denver to lose as well to have their division title hopes still be alive, but they are also fighting in the AFC Wild Card race. The Lions will have the celebration of all celebrations if they can win this game, as they would lock up their first playoff berth since the turn of the millennium.

These teams are all chasing the Cincinnati Bengals and the New York Jets. Both the Jets and the Bengals are at home this week, but neither one has to feel all that great about it. The Bengals host the Arizona Cardinals, while the Jets host their stadium mates, the New York Giants. Both Arizona and New York probably have to win to keep their seasons alive, as they are both 7-7 and know that they are going to have a hard time getting into the postseason at 8-8. Cincinnati is favored by four against the surging Cardinals, while the Jets are laying three against the Giants in a battle of teams that are coming off of devastating losses in Week 15.

Elsewhere in the rare NFL Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles meet in what should be an awesome showdown. Philly needs a win and a New York loss in Week 16 to keep its playoff hopes alive, while Dallas knows if the Giants lose, this will be its chance to stamp its ticket to the playoffs once and for all. A loss this week, and the Cowboys’ playoff hopes will be determined next week in the Meadowlands against the Giants, meaning the stakes are clearly higher for the Eagles. Of course, if the Giants win earlier in the day, this game doesn’t mean anything to anyone (save for Dallas’ slim Wild Card hopes at that point). The hosts have already been beaten by New York two weeks ago here in Arlington, and that’s why the oddsmakers have chickened out and lined them just a -2 against a red hot Philly team that has clearly hit its stride.

The San Francisco 49ers are still trying to get the top seed in the NFC, and they are two wins away from a first round bye in the playoffs. They have a tricky, tricky test this week against a Seattle Seahawks team that challenged them in Week 1 of the season at Candlestick Park. Now, Seattle has a chance to keep its season alive with a win, and it will be right in the thick of the playoff race going into Week 17 as long as either Detroit and/or Atlanta lose. The Hawks are three point dogs in this one, but between how well they have played at home historically and how badly the Niners looked on the road two weeks ago versus a comparable Arizona team, no one would be surprised at an upset. A stat to watch in this one, though… RB Marshawn Lynch has scored at least one TD in 10 straight games. The Niners haven’t allowed a rushing touchdown all season long.

We definitely aren’t without football on Sunday even though it is Christmas Day, though. The Green Bay Packers are going to try to open two great Christmas presents with one game. They can lock up home field advantage throughout the playoffs and can knock the Chicago Bears out of the playoffs in one shot. This game is currently off the board, but we know that Green Bay is likely to be a double digit favorite even though its perfect season went out the door last weekend.

Finally on Monday Night Football, the NFC South could be settled when the Atlanta Falcons face the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans wins the division with a victory, and at the same time, that would make Week 17 be tense for the Falcons, who likely will not have a playoff spot wrapped up at that point. Atlanta lost in overtime the first time around when these two teams met, and it is going to try to get back on track in the Bayou. The Saints, who lost to the Falcons last year at home, are seven point favorites to get some revenge and to keep on a pace to challenge for the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs.

For the first time this year, we have NFL betting action on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and we here at Bankroll Sports aren’t going to miss a moment of all of the action.

We’ll begin with Thursday Night Football, where things are looking fine and dandy for the Atlanta Falcons. With so much carnage in the NFC Wild Card chase, the Falcons can put themselves in fine shape with a win on Thursday. The Jacksonville Jaguars just picked up their first win under interim Head Coach Mel Tucker, but the truth of the matter is that that came courtesy of seven turnovers last week by a bad Tampa Bay Buccaneers outfit. There’s a reason why Atlanta is favored by 11 points at the Georgia Dome, especially since this is going to be the third game in 11 days played by Jacksonville.

On Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys are going to be playing the aforementioned Bucs. Dallas blew a chance at really taking the NFC East by the throat on Sunday Night Football last week, but it still controls its own destiny for the division title. This is a game that it can’t afford to lose, and when the NFL odds open in this one, we expect to see it favored by double digits as well.

There are a lot of teams that are off the board right now that might be double digit favorites on Sunday as well. The New York Giants are hosting the Washington Redskins and will hope to avenge a Week 1 loss in Landover, while the New Orleans Saints travel to the Minnesota Vikings.

Another team that we do know is favored by double digits is the Green Bay Packers. The Pack are laying 13.5 at the Kansas City Chiefs, and it has become very apparent that there isn’t much between them and a perfect regular season. Green Bay has been a dominating side at home, but not so much on the road, and the last time we saw the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium though, they took the Pittsburgh Steelers right down to the wire. Perhaps the Packers have a tad bit to worry about in this one.

There are some very interesting games that are going to be impacting the playoff chase in both conferences. We’ll start in the AFC, where there are four teams that enter this week at 10-3, all of which think that they can be the top seed in the conference when the postseason gets underway. The team with the easiest road this week is the Houston Texans. The newly crowned AFC South champs will celebrate at Reliant Stadium for the first time since getting into the playoffs this week, and they will open up as 6.5 point favorites over QB Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

The rest of these teams have to go on the road in tremendously tough battles. The New England Patriots are favored by six on the road at the Denver Broncos, where QB Tim Tebow will be hoping to win yet again to potentially move the Broncos within a win of the AFC West title. The Pittsburgh Steelers, who have to deal with an injured QB Ben Roethlisberger and might be without LB James Harrison, are going to be taking on the San Francisco 49ers in a game that is currently off the board on Monday Night Football. Finally on Sunday Night Football, the Baltimore Ravens are laying 1.5 at the San Diego Chargers, who could be fighting for their playoff lives.

On the back end of the AFC playoff picture, the Tennessee Titans are laying 6.5 at the Indianapolis Colts. The Titans are probably set to turn the ball over to rookie QB Jake Locker, who looked okay in relief last week of the injured QB Matt Hasselbeck. This is probably the best chance that the Colts have of winning a game this season. Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals are off the board in a game in which they will be heavily favored against the St. Louis Rams, while the New York Jets are getting three from the Philadelphia Eagles, who are at least clinging to dim postseason hopes, two back in the NFC East with three to play.

The NFC Wild Card race is going to be hot and heavy this week as well. Perhaps the most important game involves the Seattle Seahawks and the Chicago Bears. Seattle, assuming that it wins on Monday Night Football, is two back with three to play, while the Bears, who are in a bad way with tiebreakers, are a game outside of the chase. Both need a lot of help to get into the playoffs, but losing this one would be devastating. The NFL betting lines are off the board at the moment. Meanwhile, another team that is two back, the Arizona Cardinals, are likely to win their fourth straight game, as they are laying 6.5 on Sunday to the lowly Cleveland Browns at University of Phoenix Stadium.

The Detroit Lions survived a huge challenge last week from the Vikes at home to hang on to their Wild Card bid for the time being. With the Giants, Cowboys, and Cardinals all likely to win this week, and knowing that either Chicago or Seattle has to as well, Detroit is in for a tough challenge. It has to go on the road to face the Oakland Raiders, who are banged up and are in bad need of a victory. The loser of this game is probably going to be on the outside of the playoffs looking in for the time being, while the winner has to feel like it is in good shape.

The cream of the crop is continuing to rise in both the AFC and the NFC, and in Week 14, the same is very likely to stay the same this week.

The Baltimore Ravens are just four wins away from clinching the AFC North and likely the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC playoffs. They get to take on the Indianapolis Colts this week, the worst team in football. The Colts were nearly able to erase a 28-point deficit in the fourth quarter last week on the road, and the oddsmakers have responded to the fact that they were just priced too high last week at +20.5. This week, Indianapolis is getting 16.5 from the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore’s division rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are likely to win this week as well, as they are hosting the Cleveland Browns as 14 point favorites.

Meanwhile, another team tied atop the AFC, the New England Patriots are going to be playing at the same time right up the road in Landover, where they will take on the Washington Redskins. The Skins hung around last week for nearly the whole 60 minutes against the New York Jets, but this week, they are going to really have their work cut out for them at home against the Brady Bunch. New England has really be on fire of late, especially offensively, as no one can seem to stop TE Rob Gronkowski and WR Wes Welker. New England might be the road team, but it is the biggest road favorite on the board at -8.

The other 9-3 team in the AFC though, the Houston Texans, have some tremendous problems offensively. They don’t have QB Matt Leinart or QB Matt Schaub, and they are also likely going to have to give it a go this week without WR Andre Johnson, who is out once again with a hamstring injury. That being said, unlike the rest of the 9-3 teams in the conference who are favorites by a TD or greater, Houston is a 3.5 point underdog on the road at the Cincinnati Bengals. A Houston win could clinch the AFC South and send the team to the playoffs for the first time in playoff history, but the Bengals are badly trying to win as many games as they can to try to stick around in the postseason race in the AFC Wild Card hunt.

These aren’t nearly the only huge underdogs on the board this week. The Kansas City Chiefs are still trying to stick around in the AFC West race, as they are only two out with four to play, including some games in division. This week isn’t a divisional game, but it is a game that could make the AFC Wild Card race a lot more interesting. Kansas City takes on the New York Jets, one of the four teams that are tied at 7-5 through 12 games. The Chiefs are getting nine on the road, but again, they are likely to be stuck with QB Tyler Palko at quarterback.

The Jets are the only team in the AFC Wild Card race that is expected to win this week, though the Bengals are also favored as we already discussed. The Tennessee Titans are 3.5 point underdogs tot he New Orleans Saints at LP Field, while the Oakland Raiders are 11 point underdogs against the perfect Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The Denver Broncos are 3.5 point favorites at home against the Chicago Bears, but that game has the potential to be quite tough.

With Chicago sliding and playing without both RB Matt Forte and QB Jay Cutler, there is a giant opening for other teams to get into the postseason picture in the NFC. The Detroit Lions have a home game against the Minnesota Vikings this weekend. There is little doubt that this is a game that the struggling Lions need to have, though they are off the board as of Tuesday morning, as the status of Minnesota QB Christian Ponder is up in the air. The Atlanta Falcons are 2.5 point favorites on the road against the Carolina Panthers, while the surging Arizona Cardinals are getting four at home against the NFC West champs, the San Francisco 49ers.’

Sunday Night Football this week is for first place in the NFC East. The New York Giants have dropped four in a row, but they have played a murderous schedule in that stretch. They can still take back first place in the NFC East with an upset on the road as three point underdogs against the Dallas Cowboys, but a loss, and the G-Men are in a heck of a lot of trouble. They’ll be 6-7 and will be able to finish 9-7 at best this year, a mark which may or may not be good enough to contend for either the NFC Wild Card or the NFC East. Dallas knows that a win in this game goes a long, long way towards locking up a playoff bid.

On Monday Night Football, the Seattle Seahawks will put their Wild Card hopes on the line when they take on the St. Louis Rams. As of Tuesday, that game is off the board, as we are awaiting the status of QB Sam Bradford.

Thanks to a slew of injuries that have happened over the course of the last few weeks, the NFL betting odds for Week 13 are only slowly trickling out. There are several games that are still off the board, but if you check back later this week, we will have the NFL lines posted for all 16 games on the rotation schedule.

The Thursday nighter between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks is a de facto elimination game if both teams haven’t already been booted from the second season. QB Michael Vick’s status is up in the air with his injured ribs, as are both WR Jeremy Maclin and WR Sidney Rice. This one will be off the board until all of those injury situations are worked out.

The Cincinnati Bengals are going to get another shot to prove that they are legitimate this week when they go on the road to Heinz Field to try to tango with the Pittsburgh Steelers. We know that the men in black and gold are going to be heavily favored in this one, especially knowing that it really could basically lock up a playoff spot with a win to earn the season split, but we don’t know just by how many points the Steelers will be getting the nod.

Another team in the thick of the AFC playoff race, the Houston Texans are off the board against the surging Atlanta Falcons. These two teams both badly need this game, though it is more important for Atlanta than Houston, as the latter has a two-game cushion in the AFC South. The big problem for the Texans is that it is likely going to be QB TJ Yates making his first career start in just his second career game. Both QB Matt Schaub and QB Matt Leinart were lost in a span of just about 60 minutes of game time.

Two of Sunday’s marquee games are also off the board at the moment thanks to the oddsmakers waiting to see what happens on Monday Night Football. The New York Giants take on the Green Bay Packers in a battle of two of the best teams in the NFC, and playoff positioning will also be crucial on Sunday Night Football when the New Orleans Saints host the struggling Detroit Lions.

As far as the games that are on the board at the moment, we have to look at the ridiculously big favorites that are posted. We knew that the Indianapolis Colts were going to be tremendous pups at some point this year, and this is the game in which it is going to happen. They are 21 point underdogs on the road at the New England Patriots, the biggest point spread of the year. (To make matters worse, they might find themselves as three TD underdogs next week against the Baltimore Ravens as well!) We haven’t seen an NFL betting line quite like this one since the Pats were in the midst of their perfect regular season in 2007, and it seems fitting that it is now QB Tom Brady and the gang that are once again laying three scores.

The San Francisco 49ers might be celebrating being the first team in the playoffs this week. A win over the St. Louis Rams at home, and the Niners can fly that division banner in the NFC West in 2011. It comes as no surprise that the struggling Rams are 13.5 point dogs on the road, halfway across the country. San Fran knows that it can’t afford too many more slips like it had last week on Thanksgiving if it wants to have a first round bye in the playoffs.

The AFC playoff picture is cloudy at best right now, but things should be a heck of a lot more clear when this week is said and done with.

The Oakland Raiders, the leaders in the AFC West, are slender one point dogs on Sunday on the road at the Miami Dolphins. The Fins have been stingy, playing essentially six straight very good games, and they would love to continue to play the role of the spoilers. Oakland is a short one-point dog on Sunday, and that means that it will probably be in a position to lose the AFC West lead to the Denver Broncos, who visit the Minnesota Vikings in yet another game that is currently off the board.

The biggest game of the day might be when the Tennessee Titans clash with the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo is two back with five to play, and it is in a good spot to make up a game on the Bengals this week. The Bills are getting the nod by 1.5 points over the Tennessee Titans, who might need to win out to catch the Texans for the lead in the AFC South.

The Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets are both in tricky spots on the road this week, but both really could use ‘W’s to keep control of their own destinies in the postseason picture. Baltimore is laying a TD at the Cleveland Browns, while the Jets are -3.5 in Landover against the Washington Redskins.

In other action on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys are -6 at the struggling Arizona Cardinals, the Chicago Bears are -7.5 in what could be the first game for QB Kyle Orton as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs (ironically, back in the Windy City, a place he called home for a number of years before being traded), and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are -3.5 in an NFC South clash at home against the Carolina Panthers.

On Monday Night Football, the San Diego Chargers are -3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in a battle of two teams that likely have already been eliminated from postseason contention.
