The biggest question right now in the world of college basketball is how much longer the Syracuse Orange (Odds To Win National Championship: 7.25 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook) can keep this undefeated run going. It’s hard to say that it seems as if the Big East is down this year, because that is never really the case, but there doesn’t seem to be a team that is going to rise up and challenge the Orange atop the conference. This was a battle tested bunch at the beginning of the year as well, and Head Coach Jim Boeheim has coninued to demand more and more of his team. Still, teams that put their efforts into the Big East regular season have generally come up short in the dance, even with some of the best records in the game, so we aren’t all that optimistic that regular season success will be parlayed into another National Championship for Boeheim and the gang.
This is especially true for the ‘Cuse if you want to consider their talent level, which many consider to be a bit lacking from some of the best teams in the land. That’s where the Kentucky Wildcats (2012 March Madness Odds: 3 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook) come into play. The Wildcats only really go seven deep, but once again, just like last year’s team that came together at the right time and made it to the Final Four, the core is incredibly talented and can take it to any team in the country for just one game. UK has been overrated by the oddsmakers all year long though, and that’s why they are 4-13-1 ATS on the campaign, but there is also a reason that this is the team that is favored to win the whole enchilada this year.

Once again, the Ohio State Buckeyes (2012 NCAA Basketball Championship Odds: 5.50 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook) are going to be a team to watch out for. Jared Sullinger and the crew have lost some games against some tough foes this year, some of the damage of which came with the big man sitting on the bench. Head Coach Thad Matta knows that his team was good enough to go to the Final Four last year, and getting stopped in the Sweet 16 was a brutal disappointment. The Buckeyes should be contenders to win the Big Ten again this year, and if they do that and get a top seed in the tournament, don’t look for their exit to be that early.
If there is a time to jump aboard the North Carolina Tar Heels (Odds to win the NCAA Basketball Championship: 4.05 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook). Everyone is down on the Heels after they were blown away by the Florida State Seminoles over the weekend, and there are all sorts of pundits out there that are wondering whether this team really has the heart to make a deep run into March. With basically the same team, UNC made it to the Elite 8 last year, and it was a team that was good enough to win the tournament at that point. Now that the team is more experienced, we don’t see how there can’t be another deep run in its future. We tend to think that Head Coach Roy Williams will have this team prepared to go on a huge run for the rest of the year, using that embarrassment in Tallahassee as motivation to dominate.
The team of intrigue to us is the Missouri Tigers (Odds to win the 2012 NCAA Basketball Championship: 32.50 to 1 @ Sportbet Sportsbook). Head Coach Frank Haith has gotten his team running up and down the court, and though the toughest games in the Big XII have yet to happen, there is no reason to think that this can’t be the type of team that makes a tremendous run in March. A No. 1 seed isn’t totally out of the question, and once this team gets into the tournament, anything can happen. No team rides momentum of the major conference schools as the Tigers do, and we know when they crank that defensive pressure up in the full court press that there are teams that might be more talented by weaker in spirit that cannot keep up.

NASCAR will officially kick off the 2010 season with the 52nd running of the Daytona 500 this Sunday afternoon from Daytona International Speedway. The Daytona 500, known as the Great American Race, is the epic race for the top drivers in NASCAR at possibly the most exciting speedway on earth. 51 year old Mark Martin surprised everyone in 2009 by winning 5 races after coming out of retirement to finish 2nd to Jimmie Johnson in the points standings. Martin is off to another great start after winning the pole for the Daytona 500 and he will lead the field to the green flag this Sunday. Teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr will be on the outside of Martin in the number 2 starting spot and will be trying to shake off a disastrous 2009 season. Earnhardt has always run really well at the restrictor plate races and NASCAR’s most popular driver is long overdue for another victory.
