We are still several months away from the start of the 2012 college football schedule, but here at Bankroll Sports, we never stop looking at some of the best NCAA football odds on the internet. Take a first look at the 2012 Heisman Trophy odds along with some of our early Heisman Trophy picks and predictions for the upcoming season.

With so many of the other Heisman Trophy candidates declaring for the NFL Draft, it is no surprise that the man that is the favorite to win the 2012 Heisman Trophy is a man that elected to pass on the NFL for one more year at the collegiate level. USC Trojans QB Matt Barkley (Odds To Win The Heisman Trophy: 3.85 to 1 at JustBet Sportsbook) is clearly going to be one of the top quarterbacks in the nation this year. In fact, the whole Southern Cal team is going to be great this year, especially with WR Robert Woods leading a talented set of receivers this year. The Pac-12 has the potential to be not all that fantastic with teams like the Oregon Ducks and Stanford Cardinal getting ripped apart by players leaving for the NFL, and the Trojans are clearly playing in the worst half of their conference. This all bodes well for the Trojans and for Barkley, who has to be considered the top returning quarterback this year.

As we found out last year though, the man that is the bona fide favorite isn’t always the one that ends up winning the award. The Michigan Wolverines had a heck of a year in 2011 under the direction of new Head Coach Brady Hoke. If Big Blue can contend for the Big Ten title again this season, the man that could be on a lot of Heisman Trophy ballots is QB Denard Robinson (Current Heisman Trophy Odds: 6.50 to 1 at JustBet Sportsbook). Robinson has over 2,000 passing yards and over 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons calling the shots in Ann Arbor, and he is going to surely be in a position to put up these types of numbers once again. The Wolverines are going in the right direction, and Robinson is a big part of the reason for that. This is a man that has flirted with the Heisman in the past, but right now, Robinson is more or less this year’s version of last year’s Heisman winner, Baylor Bears’ QB Robert Griffin III.

revolution468 Odds to Win 2012 Heisman Trophy & Heisman Trophy Picks

Of the four Heisman Trophy finalists on the offensive side of the ball from last year, the only one of the bunch that is coming back to school this year is Wisconsin Badgers RB Montee Ball (Heisman Trophy Betting Lines: 5 to 1 at JustBet Sportsbook). We just can’t see how Ball is going to put up numbers that were better than what he had last year when he rushed for 1,759 yards and accounted for a total of 39 TDs. Parlay all of that with the fact that the Badgers won the Big Ten and played in the Rose Bowl this year, and we become very confused as to what more Ball needs to do to win the Heisman Trophy. Of course, the stats that Griffin put up last year were out of this world, but Ball wasn’t even really all that close to winning the award. Ball isn’t a flashy back, as he is more or less just that vintage “between the tackles” back, and though he is going to put up the numbers once again assuming that he stays healthy, the issue is that he just doesn’t have the flare of some of the other top players in the land.

There are a few players with some long odds that we are willing to take a stab at this year. We’ll start with the Clemson Tigers’ WR Sammy Watkins (Current Heisman Trophy Odds: 22 to 1 at BetOnline Sportsbook). Though QB Tajh Boyd is going to get a lot of the accolades for the Tigers, Watkins is clearly the player that made the difference to this team this year. Watkins does everything for Clemson, carrying the ball as a receiver, catching the ball, returning kicks, and perhaps selling popcorn on the side as well. Remember that he is only a sophomore this year. This is the year in which QB Tim Tebow won the Heisman, and it is also the year in which RB Mark Ingram won it as well. Watkins is going to be the man that has to make the Tigers the top team in the ACC once again, and if that happens, Watkins could be a Heisman contender.

We’re also going to look at the Georgia Bulldogs’ QB Aaron Murray (Current 2012 Heisman Trophy Lines: 15 to 1 at BetOnline Sportsbook). The top teams in the SEC are the ones that always have Heisman Trophy finalists. The Alabama Crimson Tide are clearly going to have some big time players, as will the LSU Tigers, but both teams are lacking stars offensively. Sure, Tyrann Mathieu was a finalist last year, but there are just so few defensive players that have the ability to actually win the award. Instead, Murray seems to be the up and coming star in this conference. He had one of the best years for a UGA quarterback in school history last year, and he was only a sophomore. The Dawgs took some major steps in the right direction this year, winning 10 straight games before losing in the SEC Championship Game. If they can keep going the right way and challenge again for the SEC crown, Murray could have a shot at posting a Heisman Trophy campaign.

Tonight, the Heisman Trophy will be handed out to the nation’s top player, though we are already very certain that this award will be given to the great Auburn Tigers QB Cam Newton. Newton was absolutely the top player over the course of the entire season, and if there weren’t any scandals going on about whether he or his family is being paid to play at Auburn, he would have walked away with this award comfortably with a number of weeks to spare. He still might post the biggest margin of victory for this award in its illustrious history.

Newton ended the season ranked No. 10 in the land in rushing at 1,409 yards, and he easily was the top touchdown scorer on the year, accounting for 49 total TDs. He threw for 28 of them, rushed for 20, and even caught one. Newton became the second man ever to have at least 20 passing TDs and 20 rushing scores in the same season, joining a fellow Heisman Trophy winner, QB Tim Tebow from the Florida Gators. Ironically, Newton played his first two years at the University of Florida, watching Tebow tear apart the competition in the SEC.

There is very little drama surrounding who is going to win the Heisman Trophy this year, but the runner up could be a significantly more interesting thing.

Oregon Ducks RB LaMichael James was really the favorite to finish second for the majority of the season, and for good reason. He ran hog wild on everyone in the Pac-10 this year, and he was absolutely the best player on arguably the best offense that the nation has ever seen. James, only a sophomore, had 1,702 rushing yards on the season, tops in the country. The more impressive thing that we have to remember is that unlike Newton, James only had 11 games in which to put up these stats, as he was suspended for the first game of the season against the New Mexico Lobos and didn’t get the chance to play in a Conference Championship Game like Newton did.

If James does stay with the Ducks for all four years, he is probably going to obliterate every single rushing record in the books. He already has 3,248 rushing yards for his career and he a total of 35 TDs on the ground and one through the air.

James’ top competitor for second place is Stanford Cardinal junior QB Andrew Luck, who is likely to get an even bigger prize once this season is over. You can bet that whatever team has the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft this year is going to be eyeing this signal caller. Luck is built like a prototypical quarterback, as he is 6’4″ and 235 lbs. He has a cannon for an arm, and though his legs clearly aren’t what Newton’s are, Luck has the ability to get around in the pocket and escape when he really has to.

Luck really sewed up his bid to New York in his final game of the season against the Oregon State Beavers when he threw for 305 yards and four TDs without an INT. In total, the junior has 3,045 passing yards and 28 TDs against seven picks, and his 70.2 completion percentage was one of the highest in the entire country.

The fourth finalist isn’t really expected to compete in this race, but it is nice to see Boise State Broncos QB Kellen Moore here in New York. Should Moore’s Broncos have finished off the Nevada Wolf Pack, they would be playing in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day and he would most likely have finished second in this race.

Moore has numbers that are absolutely unrealistic looking. He threw for 3,506 yards and 33 TDs, marking the third straight year in which he reached the 3,500 passing yard mark, and he now has 97 TD passes against just 18 picks for his career. Should he decide to come back to Boise for his senior year, Moore is likely to challenge all sorts of passing records. Though the Heisman Trophy is clearly out of his grasp, it is great to see a mid-major player as a finalist for college football’s biggest prize. Hawaii’s QB Colt Brennan was the last man from a mid-major conference to be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in 2007.

2009-10 NCAA Pre-Season Futures Picks

June 24th, 2009 by Jay (Bankroll Sports Contributor) | Posted in College Football

The college football season will be here in just a few short weeks. One of the main reasons college football is so exciting is because each week team’s can either make or break their season. Predicting Conference and Division Champions can be a difficult task with all the upsets and unexpected events that go into every college football season. Betus.com has released all types of pre-season betting scenarios including all major Conference and Division odds. The betting odds are always most profitable before the year starts and before pre-season rankings are released because many people simply do not know what to expect. We will take a look at some of the best teams to bet on heading into 2009 while taking advantage of these great betting odds.

Future Pick #1 – Odds to win the ACC Atlantic Division

Boston College +3000
Clemson +350
Florida State +125
Maryland +800
North Carolina State +200
Wake Forest +325

The ACC Atlantic Division is up for grabs in most expert’s perception heading into the new season. Clemson, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, and Florida State all have great chances to take down the division. However, we expect one team in particular to be better than predicted. The Florida State Seminoles return a very strong defense heading into 2009. The Seminoles were also the best offense in the ACC a year ago. Quarterback Christian Ponder led the Seminoles to 33 points per game. The Seminoles will be rock solid on both sides of the ball again this season and we expect them to get another division title for the 2nd year in a row. Clemson seemingly always finds a way to fall apart. North Carolina State is a bit overrated, and Wake Forest is not the team they have been over the last few years. We encourage a big play on the slightly favorite Florida State Seminoles.

Pick – Florida State +125

Future Pick #2 – Who will win the Big 10 Championship?

Illinois +650
Indiana +6000
Iowa+550
Michigan +1000
Michigan State +550
Minnesota +2500
Northwestern +2500
Ohio State +150
Penn State +250
Purdue +8000
Wisconsin +900

The Big Ten had a load of talented teams last year. Teams like Michigan State, Iowa, and Northwestern all had surprisingly strong seasons. The conference really displayed a lot of up and coming teams. The Iowa Hawkeyes will again be a team to watch out for heading into the season. Penn State dominated most of the season and looked like they were headed to a BCS National Championship game before being upset by Iowa late in the season. The Nittany Lions will be strong in 2009 as well. However, the team that will likely breakout from the pack will be the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State only lost one game in the conference last year and that was a great game against Penn State. Freshman Terrelle Pryor really matured as the season progressed destroying defenses with his running ability. However, Pryor actually displayed his arm in a few games late in the year. Pryor should be a well-oiled machine by the time the season kicks off and could have a breakout type season. The Buckeyes will also sport a stealthy defense that held the high power Texas offense to 24 points and nearly handed the Longhorns an upset in the Fiesta Bowl. Look for Ohio State to be just as dangerous this season on offense and not just on the defensive side of the ball.

Pick – Ohio State +150

Future Pick #3 – Who will win the Heisman Trophy?

I’m sure the vast majority of the betting world will be favoring the prominent Florida Gator’s quarterback Tim Tebow for this year’s Heisman Trophy predictions. While it may be hard to bet against Tebow and the Gators, we will look out west for this year’s Heisman winner. Texas Longhorn’s quarterback Colt McCoy has a great opportunity heading into 2009. After becoming a finalist just one year ago, the Longhorns sport another high powered offense that will likely post big numbers week in and week out. The Texas offense should be tops in the Big 12 over Oklahoma and McCoy will have the chance to put up some crazy statistics in the high scoring conference. Tebow is a great choice as well, but it is a bit harder to post superior statistics in the SEC. Not only will McCoy post the best numbers out of this year’s Heisman hopefuls, but Texas looks to have the best team in the Big 12. As always, it’s hard to win the most prestigious award in college football unless you team is performing at championship level. We take a gamble and bet on McCoy to get the job done

Pick – Colt McCoy +275
