2012 Masters Predictions & Info
2012 Masters Dates: Thursday, April 5th – Sunday, April 8th, 2012
2012 Masters Location: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, GA
Defending Masters Winner: Charl Schwartzel
2012 Shell Houston Open TV Coverage – Network: ESPN, CBS
It was a rough day at the Masters, as there weren’t all that many golfers that were able to card rounds in the 60s. One of the men that was able to do so was the new favorite to win the Masters, Rory McIlroy (Masters Odds: 3.25 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). We’ve seen good things out of McIlroy thus far in this tourney in spurts, as he seems to be able to roll off birdies in bunches at times. He started off the tourney with a double bogey, and since that point, the argument could be made that McIlroy has been the best golfers out there on the course. Don’t be shocked if he can get past the demons of last year’s 80 on the final day here at Augusta National this year.

Tiger Woods is likely too far off of the pace at +3, and with that being said, the only other man of the big names in the field that is left to back is Phil Mickelson (Odds to Win Masters: 8.10 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). Lefty had one of the best rounds of the day on Friday, shooting a 68 to overcome the dreadful 74 that he had on the first day of the Masters. Mickelson knows what it takes to win the green jacket, and he might be the best contender right now left to face off with McIlroy going into the weekend.

However, it isn’t neither Lefty nor McIlroy that had the best day of golf on the second day here at Augusta. That distinction goes to the ageless Fred Couples (Updated Odds To Win The 2012 Masters: 20.20 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). Couples had a great go of it in his final 12 holes, shooting -5 on those holes to get to the top of the leaderboard. There is a real question as to whether or not Couples can really keep this up, but if the weather stays questionable and the scores remain in this type of a range, this is a tournament that is definitely there for the winning for a man that is finding ways to put the ball well and get onto the green without many issues.

The other co-leader in the clubhouse is the only man in the tourney to post two rounds of 70 or better, Jason Dufner (2012 Masters Betting Lines: 13.60 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). Dufner has never won a tournament here on the PGA Tour, and this would be quite the dramatic first win if it were to pan out this way. Dufner has been consistent here at Augusta though the first 36 holes, and this is about all that we can ask for out of a man that has had to fight some iffy weather conditions all week long just like the rest of the field. This was a man that really didn’t have a heck of a lot going for him coming into this tournament, but we have seen some magical things at Augusta, and Dufner might be the next big time thing.
If you’re looking for a man that has a nice price going into the weekend, we suggest Paul Lawrie (2012 Masters Predictions: 55 to 1 @ 5Dimes Sportsbook). Lawrie was the early leader in the first day of this tournament, and though he only shot an even par 72 in Round 2, he is still just two shots off of the pace. Lawrie has a lot of golfers around him that have a lot of big time names, and he almost seems to be the forgotten man in the bunch. Lawrie had a pair of eagles in Round 1, and he finished out the second time through this course with birdies on 16, 17, and 18. With that type of a surge, we definitely aren’t counting Lawrie out from just two shots off the pace.
