This is a rare week in college football, as there really aren’t all that many games that are expected to be complete and utter blowouts. Only one game on the board right now features a team favored by more than four touchdowns, and that’s the Auburn Tigers at home against the lowly Florida Atlantic Owls.
We’ll start off with the games at the start of the week. The Cincinnati Bearcats were embarrassed the last time that they were on national television against the Tennessee Volunteers, but now, they have a chance to make amends on Thursday night when they take on the NC State Wolfpack. The Pack are still trying to get over the loss of QB Russell Wilson in the offseason, and they aren’t expected to really make all that much noise in the ACC. That being said, they’re 7.5 point underdogs on Thursday Night Football.
On Friday, two of the teams that are up and coming in the country are going to meet. Both the UCF Knights and BYU Cougars know that their BCS dreams are toasted, but they can both still be Top 25 teams when the season is said and done with. The oddsmakers are having a tough time with this one, as UCF is a three point pup in this nationally televised game. Expect some great QB play between Jake Heaps and the youngster for the Knights, Jeff Godfrey.

Last week, we talked a lot about teams that had to hit the road, and this week is no exception whatsoever. The Arkansas Razorbacks did some great things at the end of last year, beating the LSU Tigers to make it to the BCS, and now, they have a chance to keep their name in the hat for the BCS National Championship as well this year. They’re going to be up against it in Tuscaloosa though, as they take on the Alabama Crimson Tide, who are arguably the top team in the nation. The Hogs are 11.5 point pups.
The other major road team in the SEC is getting a slew of respect. The Bayou Bengals have a long week of preparation to get ready for the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown. This is a tough test for both teams, and it is a chance for the Big East to make a statement to the rest of the country even though the conference just lost two more schools to the ACC in the Syracuse Orange and the Pitt Panthers. Even here though, there is just no respect for the Big East on the NCAA football odds, as the ‘Neers are six point home underdogs in Morgantown.
The other two games on the slate that are of some massive intrigue also involve Top 15 teams that are going to be on the road. The Florida State Seminoles are three point favorites at the Clemson Tigers in Death Valley, a place where they have not historically played well. This is a crucial game for Head Coach Jimbo Fisher though, as a loss to the Tigers would make winning the ACC Atlantic Division for a second straight year incredibly difficult and would certainly remove any chances of winning the National Championship. FSU is a three point favorite though, a number which is usually awfully dangerous when push comes to shove as a road team.
Finally, in the only battle of Top 10 teams, the Oklahoma State Cowboys will head to the Texas A&M Aggies in what could be a real shootout in College Station. These two put up a ton of points last year in Stillwater, and though the Pokes have been tempered just a bit this season, WR Justin Blackmon and company should be able to throw a slew of points on the board in this one. The Aggies won’t back down though, and the oddsmakers have lined them as favorites by three points, the value of home field advantage.
There are some more teams that are big favorites on the road this week, and though none of them should struggle, all of them are at least on modest upset alert.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 23 point favorites against the slumping Wyoming Cowboys, who really need a win like this one to try to resurrect their program. The Oregon Ducks find themselves as 1.5 point choices of the oddsmakers over the Arizona Wildcats, who could slip to just 1-3 with a loss. And the Florida Gators, who are already up to No. 15 in the country, take on the Kentucky Wildcats, a team that they virtually never get beaten by.
The one ranked team that is an underdog against an unranked foe this week is the USC Trojans. This is ironically the third straight week that the Sun Devils have been in this spot. They were the unranked team against a ranked Missouri Tigers side at home and won in overtime, and then last week, they were the ranked team at the unranked Illinois Fighting Illini. Now, ASU is a three point favorite at home against the ranked Trojans in a game that it must win if it has hopes of staying competitive in the Pac-12 and challenging for the Rose Bowl this year.
