      The infamous Thursday night NFL Football Kickoff game was first introduced by the National Football League in the 2002 season. This exciting Thursday night NFL Kickoff now features a game that is hosted by the defending Superbowl Champions from the previous season, an idea that was not implemented until the 2004 season. Since the implementation of the idea where the previous National Football League Superbowl champion would host the game, the home team (ala previous year’s Superbowl winner) has one all four games (2004 to 2008), which includes two wins by Tom Brady’s New England Patriots, one win by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and another by Manning’s Superbowl Champion Indianapolis Colts. For the most part, the previous season’s Superbowl champion not only won the game but also manhandled their opponent with ease, with the one exception of the Patriots over the Colts in 2004 who only won by 3 points in a game that was a rematch of the 2003 AFC Championship. The first of the two teams to win the opening night NFL Football kickoff game that were not defending Superbowl champions, was the San Francisco 49ers over the New York Giants, 16-13 in 2008 which also happened to be the only road team to win this game since it’s introduction. The second of the two non-Superbowl champions was the Washington Redskins over the New York Jets in 2003. From 2004 on, it was all home teams and previous Superbowl winners.
